as long as it doesnt do damage to your serp's, you shouldn't be worrying about it much. like someone said, if you're posting comments anyways, you might as well have your site in your sig.

Punishing a website for having a lot of backlinks from one forum would not make a lot of sense. That would have been very bad news for my competition :D. I would just imagine that Google would not give them a lot of value. I figure if you are not banned from the forum yet for your signature and backlinks in your signature then you must have some valuable signature/backlinks. Basically "Google" looks at it as a website of some value that its links are allowed by the forum administrators and its users.

It depends of what you are talking about. IF you want to know if it helps with page rank then answer is: yes it does but not much.
If you are talking about site exposure, traffic increase and sales, then it definitely helps.

A lot of people say there do-follow, well this forum is. But i don't believe that. On other forums im on every sig link for every post counts as a backlink. Here is no where near this.

Sig links are good for traffic, thats about it.

I just checked in webmaster tools and posts here do show up as backlinks. I don't think that is unique. I agree it probably helps much more with indexing than anything else.

This is a great site with great people, it can't hurt.

Check the site source, then read the lasted manuals on HTML. The fact that your sites are not showing backlinks from this forum does not change the fact that the tag IS NOT ON THIS FORUM.

    <a href="http://holidayinaustralia.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Holiday in Australia</a>
    HTML:
How much more proof is needed?

The fact that you can not grasp this concept is not doing much for the credibility of your first "seo for dummies" link ;)

They're probably not all showing up because Google doesn't index all the posts you make, only the more popular ones.

However, if you submit the post link to Google, stumble it, and del.ici.ous it as well, then I think that would count as a more authoritative backlink wouldn't it ?

Edit: Eh, shame this site is banned from StumbleUpon.

Likely not, but it will promote the site you are submitting, and making that site more popular, and in turn giving more exposure to your signature. While Google (may or) may not give the link more power, people certainly may. However, the more exposure the thread gets the greater the chances of it getting indexed by the search engines.

However, I tend to treat all forum signatures the same, and in that, I base it on the post it's attached too. If the person that made the post seems to know what they are talking about and I am interested in the subject, then see that they have a sig pointing to more on the topic I may check them out.

For instance, currently I'm promoting a thread in my sig here: Street Team Forum Promotion

However, more people in this thread, and specifically this post may be more inclined to have clicked into this thread: Promoting your site by promoting someone else's had it been in my sig...

Though both are about forums so both will likely do better then the site I'm promoting (Google Crawl Tool) (but I guess it's not completely unrelated either).

Keep in mind that the above examples only apply to humans, as robots don't really care what links are related until maybe after they have clicked.

    :D

No, only a page and a half. There was a full page of people agreeing, then there were the few that popped into laugh at all the people saying the same thing... then again, there are pages of threads about whether sigs help or not.

Traffic-wise and exposure-wise, it'll help. I've got thousands of views from DP leading to my main blog, and I don't even link to it in my signature anymore (but I used to). Link-wise, I'm not sure. I know Google's stance on buying links, but besides that, I have no clue.

Okay, well I was initially thinking they might hurt as you'll get BANG 300-400 backlinks over the course of a week or so, depending on the number of posts you've done and this might apply as too many backlinks penalty.

    But it's all re-assuring anyway :).

Signature links don't mean the world. But they are easy to get. If you wanna boost you rankings with this strategy you just have to get thousands or tenthousands of these links.

(another 3 more links for my site, yeah!:) )

It can actually take some time before all of the links are found. For instance, I've been posting a for just under a year now, and I've posted in hundreds of threads. It may take weeks or even months for SE's to re-find and re-index my sig links should I change them.

Most sig links will be found on a post by post basis on an active forum as threads get bumped and created. The ones posted long ago are often left as they were found the first time, and in many instances, never updated at all.

So the influx of new links form a given sig is not as HUGE as it first may seem.

try an experiment and don't get any links from anywhere else for that site, then wait until google pr update and then we can see if you get PR only from having the DP signature links...... it would be a great experiment that would teach us all alot
