Checking my backlinks in Yahoo, I seem to have a couple of backlinks from sites that are basically duplicates of the content I've written on articles and other forums.

    1. http://www.talkblogging.com/general-blogging-chat/15445-apache-tomcat-5-0-28-error.html]
That is a copy of a post I wrote on this forum.

Exact copy of an article I wrote on ezine.

I've also spotted that same article on Gather and other blogspots blogs which are supposedly link farms. But they have a link to my site on them :(.

Is this damaging to my backlinks and Google ranking ? I probably should contact blogger about them and the other service providers but it's an endless battle isn't it ?

Maybe someone is stealing your rss content and posting on their own sites?

Scrapping content happens all the time. I constantly battle it.

Yes, well that's how the auto content generators work.

I guess my question was, do these backlinks hurt me or what ?

In most of the cases it will end up benefit you :D
But of course, it all depends on how popular your site is.
If you have hundreds of links pointing to your site out there, then there should be no reason for worries. If you have a small site, content stealing can be a problem. But to be honest I can't see why anybody would steal content from a small new site.
