Try Savvis or Databank. Both are good.

One thing never look for the cheapest price, hardware belongs to you, any problem with provider, your hardware may disappear, look for a stable data center

Colocating a server usually costs more then budget dedicated servers so I doubt you will find anything cheaper then that.

    1) Your taking up space which could be used for a more expensive rental
    2) Your using an unknown amount of electricity
    3) Your using bandwidth which you will most likely use what you pay for since your colocating a good box.

Remember, bandwidth is really expensive, most hosts only expect less then 10% of the client base to actually use the bandwidth offered. If you want a 10mbps dedicated port, that would cost the datacenter $80-$120 /month for bandwidth alone. Basically you need to be realistic in what your looking for or you risk losing your hardware. It's not the first time its happened.

I've never seen the advantage of colocation, it's usually not very far removed from rented servers in terms of price, and then you have the burden of hardware failure.

It really depends on your hardware requirements, if yours is a standard configuration, a dedicated server will do. But if your server needs extra features and hardware, normally colocation is preferred.

The advantage of colocation is to host big machines like core2quads with 4-8GB of ram and a few hard drives or dual/quad xeon/opteron boxes with a buttload of ram like the one below... Try asking a datacenter to rent you that and you'll soon realize why colocation is done :p Especially if you want to use a ton of bandwidth (30-100TB's or more).

    That's one nice server ;)

We rent, it's more economical for a smaller company, but we aim to start running out of private racks/private cages one day, perhaps even a datacenter!

As I look around here, all I see are people asking for outrageous things, and then expecting them to be offered at $5 a month or cheaper! Come on people, get real. If you want genuine service on a dedicated server, its going to cost money no matter how you look at it. Bandwidth costs money no matter what country the server is located in. The most used word on this site is "cheap." Or "where can I get unlimited service and pay next to nothing?" Reality does not work this way. Anything worth something comes at a price. Most of the time, the price is dictated through whatever country the server is located in. Bandwidth is more expensive in certain countries. Colocation is a good idea only if you are in it for the long haul.

Generally, you should colocate when you're having a good hardware which would cost more when leased from DC. or if you want to colocate Celerons or P4's, then you might want to consider buying extra space, as space is cheaper in DC's than Bandwidth.

Like, you can get a full rack(42U) for about $1500-$2500 monthly with 10-25 mbps bandwidth on gbps ports etc. while a single server costs you $50+~$800-$1500 for same amount of bandwidth.
