I'm curious to peoples thoughts on this. How much weight do google put on having the keywords in the domain? I'm targetting "pet names" (just an example) and I've just bought the domain petnames.net for $3000. Partly for branding purposes, but I'd be lying if I said I wasnt thinking of seo when I bought it. Theres 20m results for the search term I'm targetting. I made some good money with a top 3 listing before but my seo was black hat and I got de-indexed after a few months of really good rankings, which is fair enough. This time its going to be strictly white, dont want to risk a $3000 domain being canned! Please note, its not petnames.net, thats just an example.
I find its beneficial in the early stages but like anything, its the quality sites that will rise to the top even if the domain is shdfkjdshf.info
im with you on that one, it is benificial but it wont outweigh getting 100000 natural links for having quality content.
Advantages of kw in domain name: 1. Keyword counts in ranking 2. Keyword gets bolded out, potentially increasing CTR in SERPs 3. When someone links to your site, the anchor text will most likely contain the keyword 4. You can use the keyword in a more legit way, making the content text keyword rich, without sounding like a spammer. For example, if your site is "keyword1-keyword2.com" and you try to rank for these keywords, your text might sound like "Keyword1 Keyword2 is a website focusing on something in the keyword1 industry, with keyword2 being our top priority". Admittedly, it might still be called stuffing, but for human readers, it reads better Disadvantages: 1. It doesn't guarantee success. 2. Hyper-hyphenated domains like kw1-kw2-kw3-kw4.com don't look good to human readers and I'm pretty sure (although I have no actual testing proof of this) crawlers don't like it either.
Well written .... I was thinking of saying it weights 50 kilograms. Anyway jokes aside. Keywords rich domains are considered valuable as most of us know, getting one means you are already 5 steps ahead, do proper SEO and ranking is likely to show up high
Keywords in domain name is useful, however, you have to work other on-page & off-page optimization too. Only keywords in domain name will not give you good results. Yes, keywords in domain name add extra value ...
Its true that keywords in domain name add extra feather....but this is not enough. Along with this you have to go for proper "white hat SEO".
Yes, where possible you may aswell go for one. Having keywords about your site in the URL will help visitors remember your site when they need that service again. I wouldn't say this is applicable when the keywords you are talking about are extremly long.
By the way, the domain doesn't have to separate keywords through hyphens to be indexed separately. That is, www. keyword1keyword2.com will be considered having the same weight as www. keyword1-keyword2.com . Just search for "Aaron Wall" for example and see how both words get bolded out in the results, despite Aaron Wall's former blog having the domain www. aaronwall.com
It does weight quite a bit : this sentence completely on my experience and some argue .extension matter : on my experience it really dont matter
I think extension might matter from a CTR in SERPs point of view. I usually trust sites with .com or .org with a click in favor of .info's or .net's or whatnot. Might be just me though ^^
I almost never click on a .info, but I wonder if the general web surfers differentiate between different extensions?
You could always do a split test. You have petnames.net, perhaps buy hotpetnames.net ( or something similar ) and do the exact same SEO for both sites. See what happens. For now, I go with Tudi and the bolding aspect of your domain being more visible in the results. But...where in the world is Cluj-Napoca ??
