first they are not a jerk, they are just doing the same as you but better. all this means is you need to step up your game. do more submissions and work on building links from good resources and also as much on page seo as possible.

Quality incoming links will regain your position, in no time. Find other related terms and see if you can get links on their sites. Prioritize based on date of last cache in google. You don't want to waste time, money or efforts on a site that hasn't been indexed in 40 days.

    1. Yes its a jerk whos search engine result is just a repeated keyphrase with no description.

    2. They are NOT doing things better than me. I get better quality leads by having a relevant description of my website displayed in the search engines.

    3. Submissions? I hope you don't mean to the search engines.

Rich jerk springs to mind? :D

Taking top spot off somebody does not make them a jerk, it just simply makes them good at SEO. However, if they are using black hat techniques then I doubt they will stay around for long.

There is no law against doing this, they have simply seen a chance and took it, now you have to get it back by copying his/her techniques (providing they are not black hat), but just by doing them better.

There is a difference between keyword stuffing and keyword density, it sounds to me he/she has chosen keyword density otherwise his/her listing will soon be penalised, or his/her keyword weight will decrease (then probably leading to a penalisation due to stuffing being seen as a black hat technique).

The above is a little bit of old school SEO, but may still hold some weight. I'm not sure if keyword density now holds the same meaning as keyword stuffing anymore as I use other techniques, but some types of keyword stuffing equals somebody using a keyword tool, typing a main keyword, copying the variation results to notepad, and stuffing them in an orderly format on the smallest font to they're web-page in hope that they're web-page, or holding page, will rank for those many variations (which I have seen many times, but they dont stay around for long). Inbound links anchor text hold the key, now use it to your advantage.

Is it a new site? If so and they have stuffed they're keywords then I doubt very much they will remain at number 1 for long.

    Is they're domain name generic?

    How competitive is the keyword/phrase?

By submissions, the above mean directory/article submission as they count as one way links to your website, hence increasing your link popularity, hence giving your site more link relevancy to help bolster your rankings in the SERP's.

I also expect Google to be doing a minor update soon. I have seen my results on one of my sites bouncing around the top 3. It doesn't stay stable for more than 3/4 days at a time, going down from 1st to 3rd, then 2nd, then top again, and I only see a minor decrease in traffic. So long as you can stay in the top 3 you should be okay, although of course 1st place is always preferable.

So dont give up... fight back :D

Just read your reply up above, if they are using multiple keywords excessively then dont expect them to be around for long, it may trigger a filter, or it SHOULD trigger a filter.

If they're using the same keyphrase over and over again (I'm assuming you mean in the title and content?) then they might get flagged for dupe content. Do a site:www. hissite.com in google to check if he's in the supplemental index with his other pages. The page you're competing with might end there soon if he really is stuffing.

Keywords places in content in the form of proper phrases will always do well... I have found 4.5 to 4.9 keyword phrase content works well... But serps changes the positioning on % phrase indexing position... Best bet is to have good back links that share the same content as what your site has to offer... My advise to you is to blog about what your site is about and link to it from your blog...

    Intruth, short question:

Will this only affect the blog in the SERPs or the entire domain? (assuming the blog is on the same domain as the rest of the website, or on a subdomain).

Only one of my posts, but it still pises me off.
I will take it back quite easily since that post of mine had no backlinks.

Ah, Google have started to hide to supplemental results tag next to the site: results, think it happened a while ago now. Unless there is another way to find them?

MarketExpert, yes you are right. It should be easier to get it to rank #1 again by issuing a few deep links from blogs, diggs, stumbles, directories seeing as your page has no external deep-links pointing to it. Obviously it is your internal links & 'root' site link relevancy that is helping for your page to rank well.

Does his page allow for dofollow comments? ;)

I would find a few blogs allowing dofollow links related to your pages topic, write a few comments related to the theme of the topic with your linked anchor text as your name, and submit away! If you think using anchor text is risky as to get your comment removed then use a named link, but still passing over link relevancy to your page.

Spamming your site with same keyword phrases over and over again CAN get you banned from Google. If I were you, I would give it a go and report it to Google.

What traffik_daddy and richuser said are spot on. You can report it, but better yet, to help you look good, have someone else report it. And... I estimate they will not be your competition for long anyway. Good luck to you.
