Free Hosts and Forced Ads?!

    Hello Everyone,

I am looking into purchasing a free hosting website, for example: http://www.free10gb.com/

I have been told that the hosting market can be quite lucrative. Adsense creates a large amount of revenue, but apparently so do forced ads on your members websites.

Does anyone know how successful a free host can be? And how much revenue per month forced ads could produce if there were 10,000 being hosted?

    Any help would be great

    Thanks

    Jon

I think it depends on the sites being hosted, if there's some successful site it could be interesting. But if I had a successful website, I would move it to a competitive hosting, unless you give them a very good server, or a share of the ads revenues...

Yes you need a good selling point, such as no ads if you reffer 5 people or something.

It's not hard to set up, and if you promote it and maintain it well, it can become very profitable.

Don't expect success if you put ads on the user pages.

I know a guy who got banned by adsense after he put forced adsense ads through his free hosting control panel.

I wouldn't wet my feet in that type of system. You would need very large amount of sites being signed up with free host to maybe pull in $20 a day. And I'm talking about over 20,000 sites. A dedicated webmaster, would not have his site hosted on a free host. Most sites that are under free host will never become into something and barely would get one or two visits daily.

I would suggest to buy a paid hosting company or start your own through reseller account rather than buying these free services, just imagine why that guy is selling it which have 10K clients.

Forget those haters! Let me tell you exactly how to do it and make money.....

    1) Goto http://www.CajunDirectWeb.com and register your domain name.
    2) Go to http://www.ihostdev.com and pick up a copy of ipanel.
    3) Go on over to Cari.net and pickup that quad core processor server for $100/month.
    4) Install ipanel.
    5) Go to Craigslist.com and Backpage.com and post about your service.
    6) Go into the section on this site that deals with stumbles and have your site stumbled a few hundred times.
    7) Force the adsense or if you're leary of doing that, use [IMG] instead and force the ads.
    8) Make $$$$

It's that simple. You have the traffic coming in. If you want more traffic, I can show you how to pay $0.001/visitor.

PM me if you have any further questions. I make a few hundred/month doing this and my out of pocket is just the server costs at this point.

yeah... it sounds tempting, but the math does not add up in the end. For the amount of work/maintenance, not to mention promotions what you would have to do... I really do not see you coming out ahead. But that is just me...

I think nowadays free host+ads cant make any profit, since every web hosting company are compete in lower monthly subscribe fees, higher bandwidth

And in my opinion, i wont run my site in a page with 3rd party ads on my site, And if i want to start small, i rather start blogging, and if i can earn from my blog via those Ads, i can pay for my hosting and direct my traffic from blog to website.

Kinda kill two birds in one stone

I run a free hosting company and to be honest you cant earn much, I am also thinking of stopping my free hosting operations and only focus on paid hosting.

On the other hand you could take my approach... offer free hosting, with great service, no banners forced on the users, then when you've got 20,000/30,000+ users you can use this as a good market to pitch other products to, ie. domain names, email handling, seo work, whatever really - just keep the hosting GOOD QUALITY and FREE and your customers will stay...

Hosting is so cheap these days you can look at it long tail and see it as a loss leader. You just need a DECENT budget to see you through the first year or so while you build up a customer base. That hosting is free to them, but I have to bl**dy well pay for it!! lol

It seems that in 2007 a hundred and one free hosting companies all started up, thinking that they would generate enough adsense and upsales rev. to make a fortune, simple fact of the matter is that in life there are NO shortcuts and if you want to grow a good long term business you have to work for it!!

Just my two cents, or "free" cents as would be offered at my host :D

    (check the sig link ppl)

    Really nice!
I can tell you that if you know how to market you can do huge piles of $$$ from free hosting and the possibilities are almost endless .

Check sites like 110mb.com (uses LayeredPanel) for example to see how high you can reach.
The key is to have enough stamina to get there...

    Hi Guys,

Thats some great advice, after seeing what kwaku and MOG have to say, I am tempted to set up a site and work at it. Could work out quite well, although there is always the risk! But when isnt there a risk?

Out of interest, MOG how many members do you currently have?

    And how big is 110mb.com?

    Thanks

    Jon
