Is vBSEO any good for today's SERPS? Worth it for it's price?

I heard things from both sides which is a bit odd to me.

This question is asked time and time again... Some people think its good, others don't... I personally use it for all my vbulletin sites and I see a big difference. I recommenced it... usually the people that don't like it are the ones that cant afford it.. or are to cheap to pay for it =)

Ya I seen it asked many times before but SEO changes all the time. So I'm just seeing if there's any new opinions. Because I even heard from some that it actually is bad for SEO, then in that case I wouldn't consider it of course. But if you can tell me that it will be either no difference or help my SERPS I'd probably throw $100 to buy one.

Make a sitemap, find a free bot skin, vB already has friendly urls, and the new vB has a similar topic feature I believe. No need to spend.

Its not just about SEO friendly URL’s, vBSEO also helps remove duplicate content, which can go a long way in improving visibility of correct pages in search engine results.

According to me vBSEO is a great plugin only if your forum has too many pages.
There has been a rise in my unique visitors since I have installed vBSEO....

A few months ago there was a series of people that started to post their stats from before & after they installed vBSEO. In all cases things made a turn for the worse. The best maintained list is from vb-FAQ which updated last month.

Hey look...someone posting MORE than a simple opinion. When someone proves to me VB SEO works I will shut up but for now...I think it's useless crap.

DP is a perfect example of a site that ranks incredibly high for a ton of keywords and notice it has regular VB links? This site isn't even optimized at all...that should give you food for thought. All these SEO gurus are full of crap. Go make a site...create content...get members. It's that simple.

How many are too many pages

Also, are your increased "visitors"/uniques from spiders?

I would recommend anyone to buy it if they have a vBulletin forum, it is by far the BEST SEO product for vBulletin. Like 'hitboy' said, people who don't stand by it are usually the people who are too cheap or can't afford it.

Believe me; I have gone much further than using robots.txt to fix this issue. Still the problem exists, I don’t have vBSEO at this moment, however the moment I have enough money to invest in it, I would!

I have vBSEO and think it is a nice script, even though I've not seen any big boost in traffic after installing it. I like the friendly urls better and thats why I installed it. There are certainly free ways to do most of what vBSEO does, but its not easy to do and I favor commercial software. The only thing I don't like about vBSEO is that if you ever once start using it, then you can't really ever stop using it. Once you start, then the urls will all be SE friendly for both internal links that people post, as well as any inbound links that people use. So if you were to ever turn it off, then you'd break ALL the links into and within the site that have been posted. That would be pretty catastrophic, so you would probably not want to do it. My biggest fear of all is that at some point down the road vBulletin would just go to SE friendly urls in the product and do it differently than vBSEO does. That would totally hose all the vBSEO users. But at this point on my big forum its been installed for a long time so I'm committed at this point... no turning back. If you are into the idea but think the price is too high, NuHit has a new SEO product for vBulletin that is less expensive and similar. I haven't tried it, but have other NuHit stuff and they do a great job with support. It was right after this product came out that vBSEO finally produced a non-encrypted version and allowed brand free upgrades. So competition is good! :)

Irrelevant link exchange with no control what so over on what links get displayed, that would prove more counter productive than useful!

vBSEO has been a product that simply works in many ways.
Once installing it, the indexed pages on a small site went up exponentially. Google and Yahoo was indexing more pages and more content. Always good.

Some of the things I didn't expect, but paid for the software was this large indexing. All of a sudden, a lot of the little topics were getting large Search Engine hits, and with welcome headers for vBulletin, this became new members. Most of our member names come up #1 in search, usually before their actual website.

It might not have bought a higher position in google or yahoo specifically, but it has helped immensely.
According to this, we installed analytics when we installed vBSEO.
Pageviews did not increase much if any, but visitors did. Went from 300-400 a day to 400-600 a day within a month.
Search engine requests on smaller topics forum related have gone up a lot as well. These are things we're not targeting but getting as topics. Every month seems to be another keyword that pops up and adds to it.

When I speak of buying vBulletin, I naturally put in vBSEO. The stats they show on their site should have "*not the typical result" I'd love to post some adsense numbers, but the site in question is donation driven.

    ---

I haven't tried NuHIT's SEO or Zoints. NuHit has a knowledgeable staff and their wikimedia bridge is quite good. The new version, which I test for, is even better.
