Hey guys, Not really sure this is the place for this post, so if it is incorreclty placed, mods please move it to the correct forum. So today one of my larger website's was hacked. It was defaced and a lot of my files modified to point to a website called darkmindz.com. The first thing I did was suspend the page and googled this site. One of the first results on google was DP.. The URL: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=622351 So it seems the owner of this website wanted a review of it here. I was almost shocked, but really anything is possible. Before contacting the user, I started digging into my server log files only to find that a complete backup was sucsessfully moved to ftp.darkmindz.com using the default domain account on the server. The email address logged is the same as the WHOIS records and the username is the same as the admins. The later of the logs can easily be spoofed but the trasfer to this domain can not. I contacted the user here on DP and of course was very polite in showing him the proof and asking for the backups. His response was that if I wanted to hire him to secure the server. Well back and fourth with me simply just asking for backups has lead no where. Does anyone have any idea's what I can do here? Or have any suggestions where to go next? Thanks
I presented my case there, and told him the truth, which is, I dont have any backups. and it could have been easily faked that it was my site who hacked his site, ALL info are publicly available.
IMO, I don't see why a personal matter between two DP members would need to be pushed to a mod to get one banned, unless the problematic incident occurred in the forums.
Yes, It wont do him any good. plus the fact, I didnt hack him, I dont have his backups. so, as I told you, go move on, and find how it was done, solve it instead of wasting your time repeating `Give me my backups`

Didnt I explain that, A MILLION TIMES! are you being very idiotic or what? GO check that dir mr, and tell me if you see any backups. ok? check that password too, if you can access the server, then JACKPOT! I said, I looked for that backup ALL over the /home/darkmindz, and guess what? Nothing is there.
These idiots usually hack into sites and then charge $xxx to fix the problem/return the backup. Stupid kids looking for extra cash.
Yeah, that can happen alot. but again the webmaster should be smart enough to actually shut them off and go get his site fixed. here, read my general security thread, and see if you can fix anything from it. then, go to access_logs, and lookup all the logs from the time it was hacked, and see how they got in, get the script, fix it. done.
