well we cant do anything about it, we will have to use, just got mine with new laptop and 4 GB of RAM and I like it so far
My thoughts exactly, even simple mouse driver (SetPoint) is 50 MB in size I like Vista a lot, but almost 9 GB is way to much for OS. On the other hand, XP was also bloated at that time. You could always try nLite (or vLite for Vista), but you're taking chances on that (more possible problems). Hm, I've read somwhere that SP1 for Vista reduces performance even more (note: XP SP3 actually improves performance). Ah I can't post links. Google for "Windows Vista Service Pack 1 RC1 vs. Shipping Vista"
that pissed me off tbh I hope they make it faster before the official release but overall, vista is 15% faster than XP according to benchmarks
I'm glad someone understands my point here. Really does your computer run any faster then it did say when Win95 was out? Probably not. Becuase the Bloat and upgrades always keep up with eachother. What we need to in the tech world is get the Proccesing power a few step ahead of the bloat then we'll enjoying ourselves alot better.
Whats up with this... I have had vista for awile and its doing great for me... Only problem I have is the downloads, it takes longer for it to actually finish.
What we need to do is demand for good coding. Microsoft needs to clean up it's code. That way we don't have to worry about bad coding taking over our computers.
Microsoft has MinWin project (minimalistic variation of kernel), but what they don't understand is that kernel isn't bloated as such (well they know better, but I guess they're doing that for another reason). Unnecessary services and support for legacy technologies are bloat.
The problem is that Microsoft starts new software building on the old code and then using new code to eliminate the old code so it does not execute. This is what bloated ware is all about. This is also very true to it's other products like their office suite.
Every time someone quotes that, I end up quoting Steve Jobs right back - "nobody ever needs a color display" (which many think is the REAL reason Apple sacked his ass, and why he went on to form NeXT with those overpriced 21" monochrome displays) As to Vista - it's got a lot of growing to do, but frankly I don't think it HAS room to grow... there are some inherent flaws in how it works - from a memory caching model that while a good idea, drags hardware to it's knees, to a goof assed eye candy UI that is more hindrance than help (but I say the same thing about OSX - but at least M$ lets you turn that eye candy bullshit OFF... god forbid one just has a simple task manager that's five hundred times more effective than ANY of this graphical tasking RUBBISH) I just think it's funny that they kept touting Vista as a Gaming OS, when there's MAYBE 5% visual difference between DX10 and DX9 (assuming you can run both at similar settings - see the 'very high' crack for Crysis) while XP w/DX9 remains 10-20% faster on framerates. It's Windows ME all over again - with hints of Win2k's early days - which is probably why development on Windows 8 is underway in a much more 'serious' fashion and with a different attitude. Stripping the kernel down to 'minwin' then putting a more efficient api atop it means yet again we're looking at driver dearth, and older programs possibly running slower, but it should lean down the whole OS making anything specifically written for it faster - something that Vista has yet to deliver on (despite pre-release promises of such) Just as with ME and 2K a lot of people stayed with Win98 or ripped out 2k/ME for 98 - we're seeing the same thing with Vista. For all the talk of XP's early years being rough - it had the existing 2k drivers on which to build, and was many times more stable than anything that came before it even without the SP's. Remember XP's biggest problem was neither speed nor hardware use, but that it had vulnerabilities big enough to sail the USS IOWA through... There's a reason we were able to stick with it for six years apart from M$ not releasing a new OS - now with all the talk of Windows 8 it looks like M$ too can read the writing on the wall, and is ready to go back to their 'every two years' scenario (at least until they get it right)
me too hate vista... when I first set it up, my PC went slow and sometimes even blocked out.. prefer XP
probably after a year or so , vista will become the need of hour as xp is now because xp also faced similar problems when it was launched i would say these are only the initial blues
A majority of the stuff being put into Window apps is unneccasary. Like having special effects when you hit the "turn off" button and it fads out to black and then pops up that little panel with backlit button that glow when you roll over them. Or having a Animated Dog with sound effects on the search panel when you use the search function in Windows. or having a animated PaperClip pop up every 5 minutes to piss you off asking if you need help...lol WindowsMedia Player 11, the most bloated app released from microsoft. This thing makes me cringe when I click on a mp3. Every little detail they keep adding to the OS and apps. And it adds up after awhile..and I'm sure we could pile up a huge list of useless bells & whistle they keep adding to our Apps. So what does Vista have? I'm sure it they added alot of Bells & whistles to this OS. I'm afraid to find out..
Wait, do the people who think vistas bloated and resource hungry have the side taskbar enabled? I hate the side taskbar it was soannoying and slow
