Make sure you included the commonly search words are already included in your website and the search engines will do the rest for you!
Put stickers on benches, trash cans, lamp posts, power post, bus stop signs. They get cleaned ... like ... once every 10 years...
Then get it on film... Get a camera, a bum, your URL on a sign, do the gag, get it uploaded to your youtube (I prefer Vimeo) and it would likely go viral, at least in webmaster circles...
Put something weird up for sale on Ebay, but related to your business. Remember all that news coverage for people tattooing something on their forehead or changing the name of their child, etc.?
Buy several cases of water at your local bulk food supply. Print labels for them, and paste it on the bottles. Hand the bottles out at an appropriate outdoor event for free (or $0.25). 24 bottles at $6, or a minimum 1 impression per $0.25. Better than most Adwordtising. If you pick your event well, your targeting is guaranteed not to contain MFAs...

I make AMV's which I post on Google Video and YouTube (just started seeking out some YouTube traffic), which don't really have anything to do with my web site, other than they are cool, get quite a bit of interest and every time I post one, I get a ton of traffic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuZVHdHPd0E ... for example.
You have the url printed on your business card or on some other pamphlets and give it for wider publicity. If you are into the teaching profession, tell the students to go to your url and download the assignments etc. You can conduct some tests and publish the results in your site
