    The Only thing which makes Google stand out is their data centers located around the world.
    Competitions can't invest so much on data centers as much as Google invests.
    Their are already better search engines with better algorithms than Google's keyword based search, but they lack the processing power of Google's data centers.
    Hope some new search engine comes along which can compete with Google.

    OK 176 inbound links but honestly what gives with the PR5. realy PR5?

    Google is pretty much set on the Search Engine category. While other people use Yahoo/MSN for almost everything else, Google is at the top of the search engines.

    I don't think I ever used anything else except when I first discovered the Internet in middle school, they would give us a few sites to use like yahoo, altavista, and dogpile.

    maybe all the backlinks it gets like when people ask webmaster questions like:

    What is a better domain?

    and im sure it had some type of content at one point.

    It's so popular because it's a search engine that provides relevant results....When you see Google you see a simple, clean search box...not bs everywhere....Not going the portal route was the best thing they did and it's what has ruined msn and yahoo's search engine.

    Google has certainly worked very HARD to get and take a leading position today. Google is the Best SE that currently World is facing. There is no way that any other SE will compete and lag Google behind in maybe next 10 years.

    It's the most popular because it has the best search results! Yahoo is great and all, but google as a company is way more famous and respected. The google search bots are fast and they always find the content.

    Google works best for me, not because of it's name, but because of relevant search results. I do use other SE occasionally. Live Search works very well too, I like it's image search (it's better than Google's).

    They're both and also the best source of the spam industry. I guess they're all busy with things to make bigger profit from being so and this led to unmanaged spam control.
