Hey all, I just redid my 1 page website... its pretty simple.. just a single page with the main feature being a counter. The site is http://www.HowManyHits.com and it's sole purpose is to see how many hits a website can get base solely on word of mouth. We just launched it on Dec 18, and it is going fiarly well.. well enough for me to redesign the page anyways. But in 12 days it has been up we have gotten just over 24,000 hits! So, im looking to hear what you guys think of the site and idea and if it will potentially be worth anything.
The concept behind the site is great but you might want to change the site a bit and maybe put a really fun free flash game on the home page so that people might return.. But i think its a really cool page... Kinda reminds me of million dollar home page a little... Good Luck
I'm a little confused about the concept of it....hits do not mean visitors...a bot will register as a hit. Is this an experiment in how much word of mouth will result in visitors, or how many times the Google bot will visit you? The design is appropriate, but I agree, some games would help the cause a little.
Unfortunitly it is catching everything now... the only counters I could find were either catch alls, or only register once per unique visitor... and I didn't want that. I did have games up before, but felt they may have been taking away from what the site is really about, but I am thinking I may put them up again. I may at some point put a second counter up to register uniques only so both can be seen.
The answer to your question is 2 girls 1 cup. It's highly NWS, so don't go.. but that site is the epitomy of what can happen by word of mouth. The owner has made 10s of thousands on it in just a couple months too.
I like your design of the counter number in the centre as the intention of your site is about hits. In terms of design, i am not sure about the choice of colours e.g. light yellow for number of hits, pale grey border. Also, i have checked and there maybe a flaw in that only one person (one ip) is needed to generate countless hits if one chooses to by revisiting/refreshing the site repetitively. I have refreshed the page twice and both were counted, so there maybe a bias, if this is something to consider.
Thanks for your comments. We are aware of every hit being counted including refreshes and are planning on installing a second counter to keep track of uniques in the coming days.
