You can get 2 whole chickens for £2.50? That's pretty darn cheap. Guess my local butcher is ripping me off!

I'm not posh enough to shop at Sainsburys!
They don't cost that much at Morrisons.

Anyway, $5 would also get you in the UK:
    - A daily newspaper Monday to Friday (about $1 each)
    - A Whopper from BK
    - About 5 miles by train
    - 7 first class postage stamps

Yep, 2 whole chickens for £2.50 and some are 2 for £1.99. :)

tempscript, I only buy chicken wings from Sainsburys as they're pretty cheap - but never whole chicken. But yep, places like Green Street Market and Ridley Road Market in East London tend to sell meat cheaper. I find markets tend to sell cheaper than supermarkets for other things like fish, fruit, veg and eggs, plus I love the colourful hustle and bustle of a market environment.

CountryBoy, I don't think your local butcher is ripping you off. Maybe it just depends on where he/she buys his/her wholesale chicken from.

    Sainsburys? Posh? Errrrm.

socail - Nice...how many rupees to make a dollar?

Ok...now that you have the answer (or atleast should), take that total (rupees for dollars) and multiply it by 5.

Now...what can you buy with the total from line #2?

Here in Pakistan, $5 bucks can get you any of these things..
    (from above middle standard shops/hotels)

    1) 5.5 liter of Patrol/Gas.

    2) 2 people can eat Biryani + Coke (Biryani is a rice dish famous in Pakistan/India)

    3) 5 x 2 liters of Coke

    4) ~1 kg of mutton.

    5) ~2 kg of beef.

    6) ~3 kg of Chicken

    7) One way ticket of ~150km trip in first class AC Bus with meal.

    8) Return ticket of ~150km trip in above middle class AC Bus, no meal.

    9) Utility gas bill in summer is around ~$5-8 per month, and around $15-20 in winter.

    10) An 10" Pizza + 2 Coke from really nice pizza shop.

    Enough? ..
