Best Directory? For me its... How its promoted. How its being managed. How is the traffic. Whats the content. How well has the site been configured; includes design, modifications and addons. How is the after sales support.
What modifications would be the ones that would interest YOU... and what type of "after sales support" would you need/expect? thanks in adv......
For me, the ideal directory should have, among other standard features: rich-text description, that can include deep links (instead of having 5 + 5 standard edit boxes, one for each deep link) links to most used categories, like: - direct link if you want to add your directory - direct link if you want to add your real-estate site and so on a list of most searched keywords on that directory a way to tell the submitter what site is served at a current moment and to give an rough estimate about when a particular site will be considered for approval the directory will have resources to other free/paid/reciprocals directories as well if it's a paid directory, to have an affiliate program on the reciprocal section, not to ask for a link on the main page of my site, or, worse, for a banner on the main page on my site to offer a reason for rejection to automatically grab the keywords from my site's first page to offer the visitor a way to bookmark the favorite sites on his/her account to have links like "Add to Digg" on every site from the directory to show in a visible spot the PR of every page from the directory, including the main one to offer RSS to offer simple "Link to us" banners/text links and to list, in a separate section, all sites that linked to them (can be a site that list to the directory but it's not included in the directory)
The best directory for me must be the one that is geared towards end users and not just for webmasters looking for backlinks.
The only one I have in my Directory Museum - I have a collection of one-of-a-kind directories - is http://www.indexudirectory.com/add.php I found it following the signature of a DP member, but, for the life of me, I can't remember whose. It works fine with Internet Explorer 7. However, in FireFox 2, the rich-text textarea, which is on the bottom of the page, is gray. The same happens with Lisa HTML editor, which uses some IE specific code. I like very much when a directory shows how many times a link was accessed. However, I believe that categories with "0" subcategories should display nothing instead of "0".
im not being smart im just being honest, and what can;t I back up there are tons of directories and more and more everyday and nobody uses them the best directory are the ones that make the most money
Best directory is not called a money maker.. Best directory is judged by its user-friendliness.. Make your points clear when trying to post them here.
ok let me start over very few people use directories because most of them are garbage. users throw together a template thats used on many other sites, some ads, and try to sell some links. they don;t promote the site or maintain it. They are in it for the money very very few directories (the best ones) provide good value, strong backling, is well promoted, has a custom design, and most importantly provides traffic
thats better. paid directories are also like you mentioned. i guess its hard for a free directory owner to invest a lot of time and money and work for free.
Modifications are the mods installed in a directory, the list is endless. Modifications make your directory unique and different. The one's that would interest me are; deep links, coupon, website detailed information, seo friendly pages, approval information (stats) etc. After sales support means, incase you need a modification in your listing, you need it to be deleted, you find your listing to be moved, you cannot find it, etc. How well/fast does the owner respond in such cases.
