ok to sum it up here is what happened. From wednesday afternoon 8pm to right up to thursday 2pm i went on a mad code fest. only break was a 5 hour sleep. I come home tonight to finish my project and im locked out of my cpanel account with my shared host. even FTP killing connections..Site is up and its old content..i poke host about it, i ask why my password doesnt work anymore and well heres the rest of the conversation. I took my name out for privacy reasons his name is just the name of his company. just add a .com I dont know much about hosting, and even if what he is saying is right with the whole old dns shouldnt he have kicked me off the server during a move and not just punt me over to avoid this? we are(were) personal friends outside this mess, which is why i joined him in the first place it starts where her replies to me with me saying that cpanel crashed: MJM Web Tech says: it gota be ur isp or somthing every night cuz the servers are not down MJM Web Tech says: http://mjmwebtech.com/billing/whmcs/serverstatus.php me says: well why did cpanel shit the bed and locked me out MJM Web Tech says: again its either ur isp or firewall / router on your end, there 100% working fine MJM Web Tech says: im in mine as we speak me says: why is my old data being shown on my site via 3 different people including me me says: also, can you reset my cpanel pw because it doesnt work anymore me says: your not attempting cluster servers are you? MJM Web Tech says: shouldnt be, either cash/cookies or your isp, the dns was donw over a week ago. ill runs diagnostics just to be sure tho MJM Web Tech says: nope me says: well, can u please reset my cpanel pw, so i can view my source, back it up and build it local MJM Web Tech says: [new password here] me says: im locked out for 10 mins anyway MJM Web Tech says: as for the old content, im 110% sue its you/their end because the old server has nothing on it atm, it being shut down tonight, because im getting a prorated refund for the remainder time paied. its impossible there seeing the old sites due to the server me says: i dont care what they see, as long as my code is there. then its all good, it can show naked japanize women for all i care lmao me says: Last login from 24.215.127.164 <---is that you MJM Web Tech says: yep altering ur pass me says: just makin sure me says: holy shit, why is my shit gone me says: its 100% your end. i spent 12 hours straight building backend tools and its gone. oh wow, not cool me says: let me check db MJM Web Tech says: itss not my end. ur cash must of been connecting u to the old server all week me says: not with authentication it wont, if forces new connections, even i know that. even the DB is flipped me says: well it went somewhere and you need to find it, it didnt just disappear MJM Web Tech says: ill see if i can get a backup ofyesterday for you, but doubful as the servers due offline any moment me says: yesterday? i finished at 4 pm thursday me says: went to work at 6 pm and came home friday morning at 3 am to finish MJM Web Tech says: it went to the old server because your browser connected you to the old one all week, there fore it saved there and nothing saved since the move 4 days ago to the new server due to your browser me says: im trying to stay cool here, but theres no way it s my end, i know with ssl connections its not cached. i have FF to kill all cache anyway...but thats besides the point. with authentication logins, its not my end. me says: i dont care, i dont want to hear it, find my shit me says: seriously me says: doesnt make sense that 4 people yesterday, all testing what i build see new shit, and today see old shit? and its 4 seperate boxes, 4 seperate isps and 4 caching issues no way me says: its not me, find my shit MJM Web Tech says: your not listening here, it IS your end every PC cashes in their browser, when you typed domain.com/cpanel YOUR browser connected you to the old ip, its has nothing to do with the server, me says: so me setting FF to kill all cache when it closes and using atf cleaner means nothing? and explain all the other connections MJM Web Tech says: ill try and get a backup off the datacenter but i dout they have any off the old server because its scheduled to come offline MJM Web Tech says: all what connections? me says: 4 people helped me last night, rebel included...all seeing what i was doing... MJM Web Tech says: bottom line you connected to the old server saved it AFTER the move happened its not my responsibility, I will try and get the backup but i cant promis anything. me says: first of all you told me that i wasnt moving, second shouldnt i have been kicked off during a move to stop this? MJM Web Tech says: nope bother were up simotanious to prevent 24 hours downtime for the dns MJM Web Tech says: both not bother ^ me says: you have a choice, find my backup. or im done. period MJM Web Tech says: dont threaten me . i make no promises of backups is the customers responsibility to make sure you have backups. i told you ill do my best and im goin out of my way to do it, when im not obligated to do so as per the TOS, because your a long time customer, if you want to leave over your mistake thats your choice. MJM Web Tech says: all im gonna say is if you do good luck findint a host to accomidate your every wish. your a demanding person whome i have bentover backwords for expecialy with domains. me says: i was tolerent with the server being down, the noneautomated processes, and buggy software because you were a starting company. i never asked for much off you at all. i even hooked you up when you were short on cash one time, alough you offered me a better plan, i did that for you. it was even MJM Web Tech says: open a ticket on this and anything further, i want everything documented on your account and ull be treated as ever other client from now on, not through msn. ill let you know at about 9am PST when the techs in the data center if theres a backupp avalible MJM Web Tech says: what you do from there is your choice. [blocked me]
I had a host like this a few months ago. I could never get access to WHM and they always insisted that is was my problem to sort out. I simply cancelled my subscriptions, asked for a full refund, told them I was taking them to court unless I got my money back. I then received a full refund and switched to another host.
I invested over 350$ in domains which he over priced anyway, about 300$ in hosting fees.. not only that the little shit locked me out of cpanel again forcing me to make a ticket to get it reset. Im a novice with all this, what took me 15 hours an expert could have done in 4 or less. it crippled me. severly. every night the server lagged due to some massive backup..alot of shit broke but i was cool with it. I might not know alot about servers, but i do know enough about computers to know this is not my end. Im sitting here, just wanting to punch out my LCD. im glad its soon to be a new year, wipe the past bullshit clean. what i am just going to do is leave all my domains expire, i dont care anymore, or give them away for free.i have about 25 keep the one i was working on and settle quietly with a cheap hosting company that this forum suggests until i can afford to move to the planet with a dedicated server in fact, i might go poke their 24 hour chat to see what i can do blaaa, looks like its not 24 hours
Have you tried using the legal sh*t such as you paid for a service and he is now failing to provide it therefore he is breaking the law?
What type of connection do you have? DSL? or Cable? Static or dynamic IP? Have you tried refreshing your IP and have you tried logging in to cPanel by using different ways? like with the domain/cpanel and with the IP/cpanel and with the hostname/cpanel.. Boulder
I dont really have time or the energy to go thru that, and i dont know enough about all this to build a good enough case. I dont feel like digging around for 1200$ and im not paying legal fees...Sure its the principal aspect of it. And sure it would probably cripple his company or reseller account or whatever the hell he has going. I am just really frustrated, and needed a place to vent. Maybe this was the wrong place to post this seeing how im getting legal advise and not taking it or whatever. I dont know what i want to do, just really depressed, really upset and really tired. I appreciate the responses I really do. Dammit, i worked so hard for so many hours. and its my responsibility for a backup? 5 hours before i came home the good content was up....AGGHHHH!H!HH!H!HH! 100% sure, im done with this jackass. And if i built it before i can do it again. and better. It only takes time. Lesson learned. I always read about the dreaded 1 backup you didnt make.... lol, i kinda find it funny in a way, like an initiation into site building and hosting. I think i want to go run around naked in the snow storm and scream at my neighbors thanks for listening *hugs* lol -_-
its dynamic dsl, and when i had similar issues last week i reset my router, flushed dns, ill try the old server ip maybe if this works i owe you big time
ok host site cpanel website cpanel and the server ip all give me the old data I have backedup what i could db and pages, going to go local and build over
Lesson learnt, always back up your own stuff. I lost my whole domain and site worth thousands to a backyard host so i been there. Check out hostingzoom.com or resellerzoom.com they are same company. Very cheap, solid servers and brilliant support. Im not affiliated in any way just a extremely happy customer. Last i looked they were PR8 so hardly a 2 bit operation.
Get a new host, seriously. If you can afford it get a VPS. I like godaddy and liquidweb personally depending on what I need.
I use awardspace.com and I love it because the cpanel is easy to use. You can get a free account. The only potential problem I see with them is that there biggest package is 300 GB monthly traffic limit ($89 for the year). Right now I'm using the 5GB traffic free account, but will eventually upgrade as traffic increases. Having that one back up is crucial. I've learned my lesson a few times. I guess you can't mix friendship with business.
Well it sounds like a DNS thing. If he changed the NameServers when he changed to a new server, the DNS at your ISP might not have refreshed for up to 48 hours so you could have still been connecting to the old server. But if so then the files should be on the old servers, but its his fault though.
I'm pretty sure this was all YOUR fault. When you type in your domain for your cpanel, It WILL ALWAYS go to the OLD SERVER Unless the domains already propogated, Which looks like it happened, but only after you finished your coding. Simple as that.
When you access your cpanel through your domain dns needs to propagate first. Always try to access cpanel through your ip
Well, all in all, I would say just stick with the well-known hosts for safety purposes. Using a backyard host is never a good idea.
Exactly true. One of the best ways that I was able to find a reputably host was to read as many reviews as I could. Mainly, I was looking for uptime reliability, value, support and such - go for the reviews, they will help.
Get a well known host. Also, I would never host with this company, their grammar is BEYOND horrible. What sort of professional attitude does that show? I'd recommend GoDaddy, Host Monster or Bluehost.
