Hi one of my sites has ONLY an opening page with a launch date on, i was wondering if it is still alright to mass submit this website to directories everywhere now to recieve backlinks and page ranking for keywords or do i have to wait until after my launch date and when the content is all uploaded? Please note this original launching date page won't actually contain many words or keywords but i would still like it ranked for keywords before i upload the content is this possible?
You don't need to submit it, if the sites robots.txt or meta tags aren't tell crawlers not to crawl then crawl they will!
Argh That's a shame i was hoping i could get ranking in google for some of my simple keywords before the launch date, as i heard backlinks can provide this even if content is as minimal as just one page.
This would be true for very long tail keywords (keywords that arent very competitive) but you'd at least need some sort of the same text in your page title or on your page somewhere. Either way, I wouldn't bother submitting it until it has more content. The best use of your time whilst the site is being programmed would be to throw up an 'email me with updates' form and promote the site for what it is eg. 'New MySpace Free Games Site Coming Soon'...you could drive some early traffic and interested users to the site but generally speaking unless you are developing something which is truly unique, you won't see much return on your page as it is....
Many directories will not allow you in like this. Ideally link from another site at least to freeze the context so the site matures in the eyes of G
