Its a good idea, but the people who write that are obviously gonna get an infraction so its their loss, people will pm the person without posting it will remain free, being harsher about this will decrease the amount of people bumping with "pm me please"

if people only want members to get it, why not post in the members-only part?

make a thread saying 'Post all free stuff here'

off experience and replies of moderators to the past many suggestions over the span of two and a half years I've been year.

Also there is an option to make poll replies bump threads, that could be used.

If they don't want to disclose the name maybe they shouldn't be trying to sell it.

If the URL was posted/linked to it would eliminate all the BS "PM me" posts and useless bumps.

I think this is a wonderful Idea. As for making it a rule, not sure about that one. However, I will be implementing your suggestion in my new sales thread if possible. A simple link in our signatures can direct people to our buried thread. ++ to you.

Hope to see many people voluntarily using this method. Also a nice thing about using the poll option is you can automatically have it closed at a certain time :)

Umm you know most of the people don't want to let their users know that they're selling their website.

Posting the URL will get people coming to the sales thread and finding out that the website they go to is up for sale.

    Creates chaos sometimes.

Exactly...the only reason people don't post URLs is fear of having their scam exposed. I rarely bother to PM someone that doesn't want to post their URL.

Members of a site are eventually going to find out about a new owner anyways.

URLs should be required in sales threads, via text or an image.
An image would hide it from search engines, for example.

But you know, other people could mention the URL in the thread if it is in the first post in some form and the thread would get indexed for the URL name anyway.

Typically it doesn't happen unless buyers are weary, which makes the whole transaction suspicious.
People only repeat the URL if they are unsure of something.

Should be, but I worry that some undesirables might use that information to target someone else's site for their own illicit reasons.

Unsure of something right? Well that happens a lot actually, most choose to just not take the risk.

and CountryBoy, verification can of course be conducted over PM.

I think this is a good idea, that way it would be fairer to other members, its a pretty low way of getting free bumps not posting the domain or url. Something should be done to put an end to it.
