This loser has my name!!!

Hey! Sorry if it sounds like i'm venting, but i think it's a little unfair that someone owns my name in dot com, and all they have done for the past year is say that it is for sale. I e-mailed them, and they said they would be willing to sell it for $225, which I think is really high for it. Should I just backorder it with godaddy and hope it expires?? Has this happened to any of you??

Not much you can do unless you are a celebrity. Are they putting anything on the domain or just leaving it there? If it is empty, try to do a back order. If it is being used I guess you have to burn a hole in your pocket and cough out the $225.

Back order from godaddy is not in any way going to get a hot name, you will have to bid, at least $60 to start and hope no one eles wants it.
If the name is a popular name I would get it for the $225 fee today.
Waiting is not going to be fun.

Would it be worth it to try and negotiate, or should I just take it at $225? I mean, the domain name has almost nothing on it, except one youtube smosh video, and an adsense skyscraper. What a waste!!!

You can offer less but the person has the right to ask what they want. You can back order but that person may just hold on to it for a few years. Plus there is no guarantee that you will get it on back order. You may end up paying more for fees and if there is a bid off. If you really want it, make an offer and see if they take it.

i got one domain name i really one to purchased, it was nickname of my friend. Im mailing that guy and he asked for $5000 for that domain. If im not mistaken the domain on the sale page about a year, so im decided to have another extension rather than spend $5000 for that dot com.

The best you can do is not asking him to sell, the more you insist the more the jerk will increase the price.

Getting alternate extensions will not help either as people may search for you typing mistakenly the dot.com first and inflating the jerk's traffic.

Patience, Ignore the name, do nothing and over time the lack of traffic and offers will cause that individual drop your name, but it might be one or several years.

My own experience waiting for a name 3 years following the above path.

just get the .net if you can for now and when this guy ends up dropping the domain go in and get it at reg fee then just re-direct or transfer everything

Unless its a really common name i really wouldn't pay $225 for it unless you have the money to throw away...

Offer the $225 and use a service the deals in domain transfers or wait.

    Good luck!

What do you think would be a reasonable counteroffer to $225?

Thats true, just register for a .net if the keyword is not that common or profitable its not that necessary to get the domain name. Unless you really want it. Then go ahead.

I would contact the seller and offer $225 take it or leave it.
Just go to sedo.com and use the broker service and have him pay, cost is like $60.00. that is the counter offer. If he says I wont pay the trade service and asks you too then I think you would have your Domain.

Just buy it for $225. After all, it's your name. Keep it for family purposes later in your life. You'll wish you bought it.

I have a common name (first/last). I took the .info and am happy to have gotten that. Maybe one day I'll offer $1000 for the .com. Don't count on yours being dropped if you have a common name..
