Right, I think a lot can be prevented thru better communication. We all assume stuff from time to time.
It's definitely an escape. Or a cry for help. Or something to get attention. Everyone has different reasons I guess.

My uncle hung himself. I was just a young thing at the time. I remember him as a big, hairy guy, that used to fit me in the back of his leather jacket and take me off on his motor bike now and then.

It is hard to believe to me that a man that I remember as being so full of life should choose to take that way out but there you go. My Uncle Alistair preferred a long drop from a short rope than going on one more day.

You probably not taking enough, evey med effects everyone, its your tolernce that prevents you from not feeling it, plus anti-depressent drugs take 2 to 3 weeks to work.

I'm a Social Worker. My favourite line about suicide is:

"If you are thinking of jumping off a bridge - call me when you get to the bottom."

So true for people that crap on about it and want to talk and talk and talk and use this line as just a way of getting attention. It shits me to tears.

I almost hate to start this argument, but ARE YOU F*$%ING KIDDING? You NEED to stay on medication because otherwise you might be sad or short tempered?!? You do realize that having emotions (which include sadness, etc) are something that humans experiance, right? If you are sad or depressed for a long period of time, you need to change something in your life, not go to the doctor and get some happy pills to trick yourself into thinking you are truely happy. WEEEEEEEEEEE lets just ride the happy prozac rainbow train and everything will be fine!!!!!!!!

Sorry, I just don't get it at all.

Well said, it's better to be "honestly unhappy" and work on fixing it, than being medicated and in zombie land.

Suicide is wrong after dealing with it in my family, its really not worth it.. People see it as the easy way out and the thing is , it leaves more problems than solves.

    Hi all

    Just read this thread.
Can I just add a small comment to this. Regards the "someone is always worse off"

Yes this is very true and I know that I have a ok flat etc and I'm not saying that I would rather live on the streets, but in a way this makes it worse because I cannot say living in a cardboard box is why I feel depressed, even with some of modern lifes "toys" there is still no pleasure in life. I guess you can be rich and famous... but it's so very true that money etc cannot buy happiness

That is true, but different people have different levels of tolerance for how much shit they can handle ... so some things that are unbearable for some, are not that big of a deal to others.

Suicide is definitely not a solution for those who think they have ability to come out of a crisis. I would endorse this only in extreme cases of sickness, where it would be more similiar to euthansia

Leaves problems with you? Your family, yes - costs of the funeral and such.
I agree with you on that.
