I have been making a full time living online now for over 2 years. I have never been concerned with PageRank and none of my sites have ever gone over PR 4. To me its all about quality traffic and ROI. I have managed to climb to the top of the SE's with most of my niches over time. What is all the hype about pagerank? Besides increasing the value of selling or trading links? Am I missing somthing?
Pagerank is used to determine the so called "value" of a page, the more inbound quality links the better your pagerank would be in theory. Many webmasters don't realize they need to spend more time on building content and backlinks then worrying how to increase their pagerank.
Sounds like some people who posted wouldn't object to what I wrote earlier in the year that pagerank may be irrelevent. I mean, even it is was relevant, certainly its due to the content in most cases, which still makes the nuts and bolts the real value. So we can almost ignore the PR. Besides, in my trade, hardly any site is over a 4 or 5 anyway. The past two years, almost every site I watched in the green trade dropped. 5s went to 4s. and 4s became 3s and so on. But it seems that most sites are still displaying about as good as they did before. My own PR has fluctuated up and down for 4 years, but my traffic has continually increased, which makes sense, because my content has increased.
There is no point to pagerank its totally useless. When mr or mrs smith come reading your website or to buy your products do you really think they care what your pagerank is NO.
Agree-no value at all-have not paid attention to it for over a year or so. Has no bearing on income or traffic.
Absolutely true. Pagerank is just an indicator, semi-useful when looking for link trades, but way overrated...rankings make money, PR just comes as a side effect.
I think good serps are way more important than PR. But high PR sites gets spidered more frequently and deeper to innerpages. Thus the PR that flows to those innerpages is higher and that gives better rankings to them. That's why PR is important. In my opinion
Even when I was at just PR 3 two years ago, my site was updated at least two times in 2 weeks. I added the letter "s" to design, and in about 3 days my site rose from 300 to near 11. And by the time 2 weeks went by, I was at number 3 on the first page. So I'm not sure if I'd ever need faster results than that.
PageRank is important for two reasons and two reasons only. 1) Google will crawl your site more often with a higher PageRank. 2) If you're running an online shop, a small minority of people see the PageRank bar as showing the site is trusted. The more green, the more trust. I can't remember who exactly it was that ran this test, but it did happen and installing the Firefox toolbar DID encourage more people to buy the product.
Not sure if you read my earlier post, but my webstats showed that Google was crawling my site 4 times per days minimum, over a one month period, when I was at just PR 3. I had not mentioned that part, but wasn't sure if it was worth bringing up. Yahoo was about 1/2 as active.
That is entirely possible. Note that the visible PR is completely different to the live PR which only Google knows about. For example, a site that has PR6 starts linking to every pharmacy/porn/link sales site going, internally the pagerank will drop, but the visible pagerank to us - unless Google drops it from its index - will still be PR6 until Google exports the Google Toolbar PR, which by then it could be down to PR4, 3, 2, 1, 0. PageRank prediction isn't accurate, and finding the real value of your PageRank at any one time is close to impossible. Why do I say that? Well, who is to say the day Google updates its Datacenters to broadcast the PR of your site, who is to say that they haven't gathered that data over a matter of days, weeks or even months? PageRank simply isn't enough to judge a site by, although we all know we still do
It means that the page that as the pr is important. It will be crawled often and the links on that page will be crawled. For example if you make a new website and put a link to it on some PR 0 page and Google crawls this page, but ignore the link because the page is not important. I have confirmed this myself too. If you put your link to your new website on a PR3 or higher page your site will be indexed immediately when that page gets crawled. But it probably want crawl much of your site. In fact the reason probably why that page was crawled was becuase it had a link to on a another high PR page. Its like a structure. Here is example of this; This thread is indexed http://www.google.com/search?q=What...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a The homepage of DP is a PR6 So your google crawled into here from the homepage becuase it thought this was important and indexed this page. This is why people spam Digg, because then your link will appear on a high PR page temporarily when its in the "coming up sections" in Digg.com and Google crawls these pages on digg very often and your site will get indexed fast.
Google page rank indicate the quality of the web page. what is more important is traffic and good SERP ranking other than PR.
PageRank is one of the factors used to determine where your listings appear in the search engine results pages. According to Google: Source: http://www.google.com/corporate/tech.html
