Don't you think it has to do with the US being about 20 times the size of Holland instead of the policy?
Anyways, I'm not complaining, I like living in the Netherlands :D

That's why all those statistics are percentages or per capita: they should therefore be independent of size.

yep, usually the population numbers are considered in all statistics :)

But the difference is that its legal in NED and illegal in US? Or perhaps there are some states where its legal? Im not sure.

Per capita statistics are never accurate.. Given the larger population and huge differences in cultures, it is near impossible to get an accurate picture given the vast differences not only in population, but geographic location relevant to drug traffic, the vast number of cultures as well as population size which varies from city to city and state to state...

Even if all of those stats are irrelevant, the per capita prison rate is disgusting. Just admit your war on drugs is a failure. If it was a success, I wouldn't be about to go have a session with my bong.

Some people have the capacity to use drugs responsibly, particularly relatively harmless drugs like marijuana. It's a shame you wish to push your morals and values upon other people.

yeah not really, in big cities where recreational drug use is less taboo you will meet all kinds of very successful people that use drugs , especially soft drugs like pot

also alcohol is a drug and perhaps more addictive and harmful then some illegal drugs, do you consider everyone who drinks a "miserable failure"?

    It's not a moral judgment.. It's a professional opinion..

I think we have hit on something now which pretty much explains why several hear behave the way they do..

    Seems many are on drugs...

Yes, I guess some people have the capacity to use "drugs"... (heroin, Cocaine, meth, crack, etc., ) "responsibly".

It's kinda hard to take anything you guys say seriously anymore now that I know the root cause of your whackyness..

Many who use drugs, even "soft" drugs are self medicating. If smoking pot keeps you off valium who am I to say valum is better for you? Most of the ardent anti-drug people I know are on a few kinds of medication that they do not consider to be drugs even though the side effects would scare the living crap out of most people. If the doctor said its OK it must be OK.
Recreational drugs are most often NOT used for recreation. Right now I am fighting one of the most difficult addictions known to man. Nicotine. I quit drinking and smoking pot cold turkey and with pot had no withdrawal symptoms and the alchohol withdraw was over in a few days, but this nicotine is kicking my ass. Why is nicotine legal and pot is illegal?

I think another common misconception is that just because someone uses any drug, they condone the use of all drugs. I think most of the drugs you listed are despicable, and there is only one of the four I would ever consider trying. Personally, I've tried none of the them. The difference between us though is that I don't believe that what I feel is right and wrong should be legislated across to everyone. I find that I can recreationally use marijuana and other drugs and still function correctly, hold a job, and do successful in school. For some people, they cannot, and they face addiction. But the key thing to note is that I believe as adults it is up to each of us to make those choices, not the government.

The only failure here is your inability to express yourself without insulting others.
