Screwed on a online transaction?

  1. #1
    some guy from USA sold me a item for £225 in the UK. The item obviously did not work and didnt come with half the things he said. I paid through paypal.

    It was not through ebay, we just met on some froums and started a deal. My question is now am I scrwed and paypal wont do jack and I lost all my money, or is there another option?

    if it was an 'intangible' item (software, ebook), just file a chargback/dispute with Paypal and you WILL win. If you funded your transaction with a credit card thru Paypal you can file a chargeback with them also..

    If it was a tangible item (something you can actually touch), you might have a more difficult time, but the way to start is by opening the dispute..

    Out of curiosity, what was it?

    Have you done this before? My experience has been the exact opposite. Paypal always rules in favor of the seller for intangible items.

    it was a video game console, so tangible. Can I hand it over to the authorties or w/e to do something about it, is it possible? I doubt they will because the seller claimed it worked when he sent it...

    No, but it get's done to me often.. I sell premimum memberships at my site, and if someone disputes it, I lose. I contacted PayPal to ask how i can protect myself and they said that they offer NO protection for intangible items..
    I find it odd, and troubling that you've had the opposite experience because i've been phucked many times this way.

    Argus: I doubt the authorities would do much, as i'm guessing they have better things to do (like hunting down murderers, etc)... In the U.S. you would be able to file a civil lawsuit, but the associated cost, time and effort would far outweigh what you might have paid for the game..

    Maybe someone else has some other suggestions or ways to 'get even' ..

    That's weird. I've had a customer file a claim on a digital service. Paypal said they did not offer protection on intangibles and ruled in my (seller) favor.

    I have a claim running right now as a buyer against a seller who took $120 and has done nothing and won't communicate. We'll see what Paypal rules...

    Well, you would need to hire a US lawyer. It would cost thousands of dollars to hire the lawyer and file the lawsuit, etc, though.

    Then you'd have to come over to appear in court after waiting the year or more for the case to be tried..

    Just file a chargeback with paypal with a whole load of details, photos, and what ever else you can get. Also chargeback through your credit card if you paid through that. You'll probably win if you didn't do anything wrong.

    you should be able to get your money back from paypal thus it does take about 6 weeks from my experience .

    since its an item, just charge back on paypal. You will get refunded

    Go into your paypal account, into the resoution center, report a problem, file a dispute - this way the person you bought the product from knows a dispute has been filed, that in itself might be enough to get him to refund you the money. Give him a chance to respond to the dispute and then escalate the claim so paypal can decide whether you get your money back or not.
