I’m a freelance web designer, have my portfolio site for 2 years. Due to some hosting problems, I am starting a fresh company with new domain and host. I am getting 500 Unique Visitors per month; I will redirect my existing domain to new domain. What I am unaware of is what things I will loose on search engine perspective? Like search engine has to index my new site again. I am getting good enough positions on Google for certain keyword. I have to again acquire those positions for my new site (besides I will redirect my old site to new one). I am curious about what more things will have to happen AGAIN when I will launch new site.
Basically you will have to start from scratch. You can redirect your traffic but not your serps/links. If I was you I would keep the old site live until the new site is established in the search engines.
It will be a start over. If you create a Google Site Map now and submit it to Google using the Webmaster Tools Account, you will get the Index and PR started. As for existing links from other sites, you need to start over.
New domain means start over from zero again for SERPs ,PR and backlinks .. traffic is easily redirect from old site ,but links and SERPs need times.
Start from zero for backlinks ? I always thought the 301 redirect takes care of that, at least that's what I've heard.
point domain name to new host? if content itself / links dont really change. see if links ride out on search engines and point to new site? must consult a short 8 hour nappy time for that one.
