You can submit your site but don't count on getting an approval any time soon since it is pretty slow in the approval process and most often rejects the application even if your site is good.

I just read somewhere that it can take years to get listed. Is that true? Meh, I submitted my blog and forgot about it. Don't hold your breath and you won't be disappointed. ;)

I'm sure you can build a successful site, even without the listing.

Yes, the speed is very slow. Submit it and forget it.

Selecting the correct category is the only point of relevance they care about.

Age of the site does not matter, though can indirectly play a part. If it is a forum, then an active member base and activity can be affected by the sites age, though in most instances, age does not matter.

Uniqueness is key in many cases, as they will not (or should not) list sites that seem to be identical to other sites. Many editors will take random lines from a site to see if they are listed on other sites.

There are many reasons that an editor will or will not list a site. It's best to be at least familiar with the ODP submission guidelines, as well as the editor guidelines as they pertain to the given category (including the category description).

Overclock099 got it right with "Submit & don't aspect to get list.. Forget them & continue your work.."

i hear DMOZ editors do not list sites that is in direct competition with their own sites. i'm sure there are honest editors, but some dishonest ones make the reputation for all. i used be be able to submit to dmoz and get accepted but for last few years - no luck so i don;t even bother anymore

My competitors were listed by a competitor, and when I became an editor I listed even more competitors... in fact, I hunted down their sites and listed them myself.

Most people not getting listed is because there are not enough editors, not because an editor owns a site like yours.

Well, this is not always the case. I applied to be an editor, but got denied for unknown reasons.

The application rejection letter is a form that should list at least one reason for the rejection. Still got the rejection email?
