Effect of Internal Linking Structure?

I am currently ranking well for one particular keyword.

I am oscillating between position 3 and 4 for that particular keyword.

The page that is ranking well, is an internal page.

If I give that particular page, more internal links and maybe a homepage link (with keyword used in anchor), can I move up to position 1?

Can internal ranking improve SERPs substantially?

Technically the answer should be yes, but I think traffic will do it better. I do not think increasing a page's PR will make a difference if the keyword competition is major.

if youre at 3 and 4 .. why alter it? lol
You might end up sharing out the page rank to the other pages that aren't listing. also, if your anchor text link shares no relevance to the home page content, that could also either do nothing, or hurt it possibly. If it aint broke, dont fix it :)

Internal link structuring is extremely important. Are you trying to get the homepage to come up instead of the internal page? If so, make sure you link to your homepage from every other internal page using absolute urls, (http://www.mysite.com/ NOT /index.html). Anchor text is also very important. Don't link to the home with 'Home'. If you sold athletic shoes you should link to home using "Athletic Shoes Home". I generally nofollow my main navigation that points to Home and use anchor text in my footer links to home. Good luck! Sounds like your doing well.

Yes, internal links can have a positive effect on rankings. Using text links with your targeted keywords as anchor text can improve rankings of the page they link to. Also try getting some deep links to further improve your rankings.

Internal linking is, IMO, the most overlooked opportunity in SEO. It can have big impacts to your rankings. Try adding a couple links to the page you want to give a boost. Also, go through the site and see if you cant improve the existing links with some better anchor text.
