.Asia Landrush rules suck

I was just looking at pre-registering the .asia domain which would be available for general public during landrush period.

However while looking at more info before checkout, i gave up.

    It says,

Boom that means if one more applicant pre-registers for the same domain, then there will be a auction.

So hell with this, loose your money first while registering and then again fight on a auction and pay XXXX just to grab the domain?

Thats pretty much sucks. anyone else agrees? or maybe i am wrong at this.

The registrar is trying to make as much money as possible. I won't be pre-registering anything.

Some will charge an "administrative fee" for trying, but won't charge you the
registration fee until it's successful. Some auction places charge a fee to get
in, and I mean the one where you physically attend.

One could adopt any attitude towards it. It's not going to change anything,
and no one's forced to participate in any activity they don't feel comfortable
    about.

They won't; they will make the money in the auction process, not the administrative fees.

Nowadays all the registrars come out with all those new extensions to make money, even for country domains, there are now personal, business etc new extensions, all out to squeeze every bit of money from webmasters. For me I try not to touch those new extensions.

This is crazy stuff from the registrar. Why can't they leave "first come first served"?

Yes, you're right it sucks big time. Nobody other than the registrars are going to make money off .asia domains any time soon. Auctions will make sure that names will be sold on the future potential price, hence any one who buys a .asia name will have to wait quite a bit of time before they will be able to sell them for profit imo.

There will still be those who pay big money for the rarer domains, but I think it will be getting harder to earn a profit as the competition is too stiff. It may end up as a winner curse if you got the domain you wanted.

There are simply too many extensions that can be registered by anyone in the world. I would rather wait for a dotcom to be available for sale and purchase it. I believe dotcom will have much more lasting value.

And even if those .asia domain names are released first-come-first-served, a
lot of interested parties are ready to register them before even anyone blinks.
Nothing is going to stop them.

Another thing to remember here is it's the .asia Registry who decides this, not
the registrars themselves. Naturally they're also trying to make money, which
    is everyone's right and/or privilege.

I agree with redwebs, some person from Lithuanian webmasters forum "almost" registered google.asia , but the end was foreseen. The person never got the domain , nor the money he paid for it.

I registered two domains and the charge was $90 per request.

Now when the landrush period begins (Feb 2008) and if some one during that period registers the same domain as i did now, will that domain name go for auction?

If that is true, then why did they charge $90 per domain name from me now?
    I am confused.

They will put the domain if there is more than one wanting the domain.

.mobi is the same. They put good names on sedo auction.

So, what if i loose the auction? Will i get my $90 application fee?

What is the guarantee that this registry doesn't cheat us by multiple fake resgitrations of popular domain names and making more money via auctions?
