Regarding buying an old domain name. Benefits? Hey guys Just had a question. I saw a domain that was a few years old and it has PR3. So i was wondering, i know that the benefits are that it has about 200backlinks, but how is that beneficial to the site if the links are Not Kw related. If purchased, there will not be any kw related terms back at the website until i start marketing it with new kws back to the site. The site was previously a totally different sector from what i'm thinking to change it to when aquired. Q.1.> Is it a good idea to buy this domain and will it help a new different niche if i start a new one with this domain under new differerent kws? **I ask because i've never bought old domains before and was in need of your opinions. Also any advice/explanation of added benefits will be appreciated. Thanks guys for all your help I appreciate it. frenzy25
Age of domain is a factor but Content and backlinks can beat that If you are buying it for a good price go for it ...
If only reason you want to buy this domain is it's age - I wouldn't. If it's good easy marketable name and related to your niche (or neutral) than as w3b said - go for it...
What happens is that over a period of time, if your site/domain name is live, people will link to it, so you get backlinks. For new sites, you do not have so many backlinks.
Thanks guys for the advice I appreciate it. So basicly since the backlinks are not kw related, they won't be of any much use other than PR and since the age is over 3yrs+ then that will just provide trust with the engines. Does'nt make sense to buy it since no kw related terms back to the site. (I was just wondering since i've never bought old domains.) Thanks again guys frenzy25
Hi None of them work for Google and so you are getting some speculation as to value of links...way back when, keyword links were not the rage, and those links could have been granfathered.... back in the day related sites could have been linked to by cool css website I like That is not to say the link is not relevant. Next, in a high competition target keyword SEO campaign, age of domain is scored as part of the algo, and could help gain a position on the competition. No holds barred!! Further type in traffic could be quite nice.....do you want to discount that as well? Lastly what is the ability to build the brand? I'll take an old domain with good branding, over a new unable to brand slightly keyword related domain any day.... Thoughts from the dark side of the moon....
All info is speculative, nobody really knows, but by observation and testing it's clear that search engines do take more notice of older domains, and take more notice of domains that have pages and links in the index. If you buy a new, previously unregistered domain, and get a few links the search engines will visit and index the first page. They will eventually come back for more, but it may take months unless you have external links to sub-pages. However, if you have a domain with some age, existing pages indexed and links, the search engines will often spider daily, and will spider deeply. I have personally bought an expired domain that google spidered within an hour, and taken several hundred pages within a few days, and had natural search visits within a week. So, aged domains can be very useful, depending on the price One caveat. before buying an old domain check it out thoroughly make sure the stats are valid, but also make sure it hasn't been used for something that could cause you a problem like spam or scams.
age of domain dont help you much , things which help are age of indexed pages age of backlinks pointing to you still. same niche as old domain.
I do not think the Pr will be the same after you make new site. Pr is also based on relevant sites and keywords in links so the old links are not relevant.
