I know a domain name of a company... The domain is about to expire but that owners are not aware of it... so... i will register the domain after it expires... and will sell it to the company again at my price... so is this legal???? any chance?
Yeah if it is their trademark then supposedly you are infringing on it and they can sue you for it but if it is just a small business or something then you will probably be fine just do your homework....and hey worst comes to worst you lose like ten bucks
You can register it but if it is almost all the time an infringement of trademark and/ or copyright to use it. So basically it is a waste of money. Timo
Good luck. You might be have serious competition. Anyway, it's not legal under specific circumstances like cybersquatting.
well regardless of whether or not it is legal, its probably not realistic. When a domain expires there is a 30 day grace period in which the person can reclaim the domain for a small fee - like $2 with my registrar. Then there is like another 60 days after that where they can reclaim the domain for a larger fee. Then after that the domain goes automatically an auction. After 3 days if no one buys the domain in auction then it goes back to the market at large for purchase. So roughly 90 days. This is my basic understanding of how it works, but I might be a bit off on details. Now to be realistic. If this company is of any legitimate enough size to be able to buy the domain back from you for a price, assuming you get it, then they are probably big enough to notice that there website hasn't been working for the past 3 months, before you get a chance to grab it. So is this legal, well its a bit iffy depending on circumstances. Is it probable that you could even get the domain and them be able to buy it back? Probably not. Creative thinking though, apply that to other things and you could earn a large ammount of money every month online. MAtt
