    Hi

I was the one fed up with adsense (still am kinda). With the help of Chroncile I replaced my adverts and my CTR has improved greatly but its still not great (I know it will with time so i`m not too worried.). Thanx to invisionz, I scrape 1 question, so - Any more tips anyone can lend me?

My site (I programmed about 70% of it) is :
    http://www.thehandvseye.com

I`m still putting the SEO work in, and my impressions are now 2000+ a day which isnt bad for my second month. All content is original, not Youtube grabbed etc.....just so you know.

    Well have this in mind

    traffic = $$$$
So if you don't have great traffic don't complain about $$$$

Your a broken record when it comes to preaching that w3bmaster. (I totally agree with you on traffic!)

sydawn, can you post us some quick stats. Ie. CTR, avg per click. In my experience, if your floating with 5% north, then you need to optimize your ads with higher paying keywords (with out spamming the ads to display something totally unrelated to your site's topic!). If your CTR is below 5% by a point and a half or more, then you need to focus on ad placement and blending. 2,000 uniques (uniques, not hits right?) should be more than ample to start to develop patterns and formulate an ad strategy for your site.

After a quick (ie 15 seconds, main page, content page) review of your site, your ads at the top are a great place to start. The ads down the right are OK. On the content pages, all you have is ads across the top plus a competing video ad on the right. I would re-arrange the page, and stick with text ads. People (in the Western hemisphere) read left to right, top to bottom. Your page should flow like this. I would place text ads under the video display box as a natural next step. On the main page, ad an adblock in there that is below the main content box on the page. When I read the main page, my eyes migrated straight down to the main content box, totally by passing the ads on the right. Get rid of them.

I know this is kind of a rambling post, but hopefully you get what I am talking about. If you need a little clarification, feel free to fire me a message and make sure you mention the URL in the message otherwise I might not remember! :)

Actually, traffic isnt the problem, I pretty much know how to increase that get that without a problem as the site already has a following...And yes, those are 2000+ uniques.. My main problem is that when they come they click straight for videos and dont really pay much to the ads on offer, which is my problem.

Should I now look at CPM more or? And advise duly noted, I will look at that.

    Thanx people

Well, you can stick with adsense and use Image ads if you are planning to check CPM ads. Image ads are mainly CPM based.

So visitors come to your site looking for videos, and they actually watch the videos... and you are complaining? Yeah, you want to make money with it, but trying to get someone to click on an ad instead of doing what your site is meant for isn't smart.

Yeah the watch loads of videos, on average 14.9 pages (according to Alexa) so that`s why I said CPM is better no? Infact, I think selling space is also an idea, with time :)

    Glad I could help :D
But you should replace the text ads with image ads only, that way it will seem as the image ads are part of your website thus resulting in a higher CTR.

This may seem like a crappy tip and you may not want to listen (I don't recommend you try this since I didn't take a 'good look' at the site--I also don't know previous optimizing stats... sooo...) but it may be the blue background. Change it. It's washing the ads out.

nope, not a crappy tip at all, just will never do it, that IS the HVE colours since it started, that`s its identity... and to chroncile, ok, I will try that, but the top ads aswell to picture?

The top ads cannot be changed to image ads unfortunately, but you can keep them and add another Ad Unit of 728 X 90 (image only) below the Link Unit, so make it look like this:

    Logo

    Links

    Ad Link Units 728 X 90 (text)

    Ad Unit 728 X 90 (image)

just took a look at the ads your site is displaying...

you have like eye surgery, vw polo vs toyota, speed camera downloads, lasek vs lasik as the ads on your page...

basically their not targetted, your visitors arent at your site because they want to know about eye surgery or cars... i think you need to try and filter the google ads a little more if you can?!

I dont know much about your site, but it looks like only one ad i can see is kinda relevent on your page and that is:

Marvel vs Capcom but i dont even know if that is 100% relevent...

Hope i was of some help :)

    Here are my tips :)
    - The blue background ... hurts my eyes especially with the white text. Try a light background with darker text.
    - Re arrange your pages a bit more:
-- Homepage ads should be IN with the videos - so your visitors see the ads while they are looking for videos.
-- Content pages look pretty good, but have an ad underneath the video (but still "above the fold) of the page.
    - You need to use section targeting, your ads are TOTALLY unrelated to your website.

Use image ads over text ads. That will help your CPM

I have already been competitively filtering the site. I have also used that google start (weight ignore) (section targetting) aswell....

It is seeing eye from Hand Vs Eye.....It seems as my figures have been rising, my ads have gone bad again.

For the 400,000th time, I am NOT changing the colour, I have explained why already.

Going to add all these new ads to the competitive filter and try even more section targetting, change to image ads and tweak some more. I started my promotion of the site properly on December 24, before that I was coding..so far:

    Monday, 24 December 2007 2,268 page impressions, 6 clicks, CTR - 0.26% ----------US$0.31 US$0.70
Tuesday, 25 December 2007 1,200 page impressions, 0 clicks (when my ad went totally rubbish again) CTR - 0.00% -----------US$0.01 US$0.01
    Wednesday, 26 December 2007 1,135 page impressions, 1 click, CTR - 0.09% ---------US$0.01 US$0.01

At least my adsense looking up:
    http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/thehandvseye.com/final

......Ok, added more image ads and as expected even with the filtering and section targetting they are .......... at the moment. I know they take a while to truly reflect so I`m not worried on that..

Sydawn, my CTR has gone down too, I only get 2 clicks a day.
    http://elitehackerspro.blogspot.com/
I also get PSA Ads for some reason.
I think this is all because of the holiday, just wait until January, it might be a better month.
