I really amazed to see few of DP members are offering free webhosting without a link in a website. I am really wondering - How they are making money?
Probably just for 1 month right? if so it's because they know you'll use there service because you aren't going to want to move your files.
One of our DP member is offering a free service for my wildlife blog for the past 5 months without any fee...
They hope that when you need more resources , you will upgrade to a paid plan. Also, blogs do not take up much space/bandwidth/CPU/Memory
I guess if they make a an offer like that there will be some people interested in upgrading to a paid package.
They offer an incentive for people to come and make websites with no risk involved. Then, even if 1% of those sites becomes popular and cannot function with the host's free plan, they are most likely to just upgrade to a free plan with the host. Both benefit in the end. The host might have unused space that needed filling up anyways, and the developer gets a free platform to make his/her site.
I think it's free for limited time and, the business try to impress the customer and after this time the customer will buy some web hosting from this business. Smart and simple
Their servers are not that Good - Normally Free hostings servers are found Down - Thats why most of the people don't use it!
Just hoping that these people will upgrade in future, if they need more resources. Like MeetHere said the upgrade can be to a different host they have been affiliated with (Some hosts pay upto $130 for upgrades!!)
Might be true for a lot of hosts. But some hosts provide better hosting than the paid ones. Read the last paragraph of this page http://www.free-webhosts.com/php-hosting-comparison.php
Marketing genorsity or maybe scamers don't know i don't care Nothing is free in this world so get use to it and pay for things when it's needed
A shop selling food will get average customers. A market stall giving away stuff for free will get LOTS of customers. Sometimes giving away things for free earns you money in other ways,
I think its a great idea to offer free hosting, in that virtual hosting is dirt cheap and you can upsell additional products or services to your customers. I would get them involved in affiliate marketing and make an over-ride on the business they generate via 2 tier affiliate programs...
Free hosting are somewhat limited, if you are just starting up free hosting is ideal to familiarize yourself how things work and if your site gets enough traffic then it's time to move to a paid host.
