Hey, I just got a new motherboard and I wanna know weather it is worth spending the extra cash for a quad core Intel CPU or should I just get a duel core Intel for now? Cash it a little tight right now but if I could get some thoughts on what I should get that would be great. Thanks!
I think you should go for the quad core. Adding a little cash would be worth it rather than selling your dual core for a quad core when you decide to upgrade.
first of all, can you? You motherboard might not support quad core. also, if you use ur machine for web browsing or word processing, you will not see a big different
Well it will take a quad core but am trying to work out if there are many applications that make use of 4 cores yet. I plan on doing a little gaming but it will mostly be web design and stuff like that, watching movies, listening to music, a bit of everything really.
Those are goos valid points that you must take into consideration I'd suggest go for Quad Core only if you sun some huge programs like Photoshop, 3D Max or High End Gaming If you use the PC just for Word Processing, Surfing then go for Dual Core
That is what I would do. 4 GB of RAM is more than enough and a GB Video Card, they are enough for almost every game I know.
On a tight leash then a dual core is engh. The quad core currently is best suited for cad and 3d programs. Very few games and desktop applications are optimized for quad cores. Get a faster dual core like the E6550 or if really on a shoe string budget get the E4500 or E6350.
Well, If you are not going to use any real resource eating softwares like Maya, go with dual core or Core 2 duo. Get a 2GB RAM and that will be enough.
Get Quad Core if your going to use big apps, or if your planning to use it for hardcore gaming otherwise just stick to Dual Core which is enough for you to surf the net, word process etc.
I'm almost sure that you actually don't need quad core at all!! for games take more RAM and better video card and for everything else you will feel comfortable with Core 2 Due
Quad core is really only going to be an advantage IF the applications you are running are multi-threaded applications... For example most games are still only single threaded as are most applications. I would go with a dual core with more RAM first, the fastest hard drive you can get hold of and then a good video card. If you are doing something specific like rendering or video editing then go with quad core if you know your application can use all the cores or that the next (soon to be released version) will support multiple cores. get a dual core and more ram, you wont see much of a difference if you just using photoshop at your level
that's the key right there - will the quad be utilized. I'd go for the best duel your budget will allow for based on what Gary said
Well here is the motherboard I have to help: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-222-AS
