Happy Mithras Day!

It's the morning of Dec 25th here in the UK and i am about to start cooking some of the £80 worth of dead animals i bought yesterday in preparation for a day of gluttony, Excessive drinking and family aggravation.

I got asked a lot this year if, As an Atheist, I was going to celebrate christmas even though i don't believe in god, jesus or any of the other mythical deities and prophets associated with this time of year.
My answer was usually "of course, Just like i celebrate Halloween even though i don't believe in witches".

What christians need to realise is that just because you have nailed your prophet to an ancient tradition it doesn't make it your property. Dec 25th was celebrated long before jesus' supposed arrival and has always been a celebration of the winter solstice. Strangely enough a lot of the celebrations that pre-dated christianity also involved a baby being born on Dec 25th whos mother was a virgin, Also involve 3 kings bringing gifts and also involve a bright star in the east guiding the way to the "son".

Is it a coincidence that the story of Jesus is identical to countless other myths that predate christianity? hardly. The myths origin is celestial, It depicts events in the night sky.

So have a good day, Whatever god you are worshiping or pagan festival you are celebrating.

Cheers matey best to you too on this mythical celebration.

My turkey is still defrosting but he/she should be good to go in the oven around 4p.m UK time.

The Xmas myth about virgins wise men and such nonsense makes me laugh every year but you have to remember that if Christmas wasn't celebrated in December there would be no January sales and huge corporations wouldn't get money from people who cannot afford Christmas let alone spending money the following month! LOL.

C'mon buddy, you can't blame the corporations for everything.

Christmas is more of a cultural festival, that brings joy to people.

It is important to celebrate festivals in all religions. It creates a bond of one-ness, friendship and feeling of belonging.

Man has lived in groups since ancient times. And group gatherings and festivals are very useful in bringing together the community.

Christmas predates any corporations looking to make money :)

All GIANT corporations are not bad. I like Google...:)

The truth is nobody can prove that Jesus was born on 25th December dude but I'm not going to argue the point with you on that one. :)

As stOx said in the OP it really is a load of BS but yes it brings families together etc. so it cannot be too bad a thing, even though most people have forgotten about it 2 weeks later and end up paying for it for the following 11 months.

As for the whole XMas thing they say she was the Virgin Mary yet she gave birth to a child, Jesus Christ wake up peeps on this, it's like a f**king nursery rhyme lol. Next thing you'll believe is that 19 hijackers that couldn't even fly Cessna's managed to commandeer 4 passenger aircraft and evade US airspace interception for over an hour with 3 of the 4 planes hitting their intended targets.

Here is the nightmare though. 19 Hijackers are enough to start a war with two countries, lasting almost as long as WWII. They will do over $1 trillion in damage to the American economy, drive up the national debt, put America in hock to a communist country, cost hundreds of thousands of lives, create millions of refugees and triple the price of oil, while driving the dollar down to all time historical lows.

Is this a dream? Sure sounds like one to me. 19 bad guys, massive consequences.

It's a bigger fairytale than the tooth fairy mate, a lot of us can see it too.

The real proof is in the pudding and the one that really gave it away was in March 2002 when Bush was asked about OBL and he said "You know, I just don't spend that much time on him."

You really couldn't make this up.

Nearly 4 years later and the place is no better than it was before the so-called "liberation" it's an absolute joke. 3896 US casualties and for what? I'm still amazed that people have not woken up to the bullshit yet.

Happy Mithras Day! And I raise to you a Saturnalia! As far as Christmas goes, cheers to that too, and for anyone who cannot understand how a made-up religious holiday could be useful (think myth) I would like to introduce you to the late Kurt Voneggut's Cat's Cradle. Read it, it just might validate your life.
