In reality are you going to really use 1 TB of SHARED space on your own, considering their TOS usually disallows every kind of site that means the use of more storage and bandwidth?

Even a 500MB account that sells for $0.50 is worth it, and you can make just as much money out of that without spending $25 on this 500GB or 2TB account that will rarely be used up.

Rarely? It's NEVER used up. Before you even reach 100 gigs you will be suspended. Thats why i have higher prices than others but if someone wants to use up 20,40,60 gigs of BW they can. I see my clients i offer them 2 gigs most of them dont even use over 300 MB.

i general people like me ( at the beginning ) search for low prices , because they think like this :

"after my small business grow i can buy more quality for my services at a higher price"

Yeah i don't disagree with you there, although i still feel overselling is the main problem with hosting i don't disagree with the points you have made :)

I'm at the beginning and that's my plan, look for a cheap reseller plan, then if my business grow think about buy a VPS o Dedicated Sv.

But now I'm having a problem, my cheap reseller acc. is having problems :( and what can I do ?

Find another company. with quality and cheap prices...

If you tell me to suggest you, then i would only say, Stay away from the people who says, their hosting is cheap. No Proffessional hosting person will say, his hosting is cheap. They will only say to scam and oversell over you :) . Every package must have a certain flesibility when its open for public and it can be assured seeing the hoster's site, their policies, their support and their attitude :)

My suggestion is to go with a small hosting company that doesnt offer stupid plans, atleast then they shouldnt be overselling and with them only being small they will want to keep hold of their customers ;)

    ok...

    Jk:
So if I follow you suggestion I should pay 15 $ for a 1 GB Reseller account ?
(that are the prices we see in Portugal)

    Real:
I understand you but at the moment I don't have enough funds to support a "quality" hosting. So while I don't have enough funds for it I'll have to stay on cheap hosting companies.
And every time I think about buy a plan on a host company I don't do it without see their policies and hear some feedback. My problem with the hosting company where I'm hosted on Is not of their responsibility (cxthosting). I can say they have a great support and acceptable Policies, problems just started this weekend and the problem is solved.
Hope to forget this problem soon use again the quality service that they've provided me.

people who offer proxy hosting for 5 bucks a month and say you get 100GB bandwidth thats overselling and telling you right away that there servers will be down in no time! just letting everyone know stay away from offers like that, unless a very very very big company offers it to you :)

I didn't mean to buy quality hosting at very high price, there are people from whom you can gather quality service at very low price. Though, they wont say its cheap as its really not cheap comparing with the infrastructure and architecture he/she/company got. Its a suggestion, i have seen most of the companies say his service is cheap, went off in one month and prove his service was really cheap :D

Buy something affordable, compare his/her perfections over hosting business. Overselling doesn't mean quality will degrade, hostgator is a overseller, though they are perfect enough in maintaining the quality, perfection should be on such way ;)

since you are researching i would like to know, please dont advertise your services.(just tot he one person who has did that)

    major problems basically faced are:

    downtime
slow support(sometime no support after you send the money)
    constant reboots
    and lastly vast overselling.

overselling to an extent maybe justified as i agree that not all users can use up their resources. but selling 1Tb space for 2-3$ is just not practical.
these hosts will then try to cut you down by saying extra CPU usage and all these lame excuses.

i too had resold a host giving unmetered space and bandwidth. i regret that now and learnt a lesson.

these host try to make it harder for otehr hosts which dont oversell and give a quality for the service they provide.people who know will fidn out the difference but people looking for cheap hosting, get ready for your site to be down.

there was a host i think called webcreationspace(not sure of the name) which used too oversell.
what happened now, is that its shut and all sites and everything gone.

people should understand that quality comes at a price and not free.

if you are looking to start a new webhost, i would suggest these things:
don't oversell too much, provide a quality it will give you a higher price but then people who buy will not run away after a month or two but remain loyal customers.
also, always try to keep some space and bandwidth extra for unforeseen circumstances.
don't go into a price fight if you cant handle that price. always remember, you can support your hosting company only if you make a profit. no one wants to go into a loss.

Problem with most small hosting companies is that they are buying reseller accounts from hosts which already oversell and then oversell themselves. Add to this, most often than not it’s a one man operation so if he/she is sleeping or busy you won’t get any support!

    Not exactly true.

There are small hosting companies with at least 3-4 employees that do not oversell, even if they have a reseller account.

Hint: If they offer 24/7 LIVE support, chances are you've got a better host in your hands than one that offers like "cell phone" support or email only. Those are probably the ones that oversell their little space and bandwidth.

I had a site with a hosting company not too long ago (about 8 month) who don't offer any phone support which made me a bit wary at first but i came to find although they dont offer phone support they do answer tickets in next to no time no matter what time you open it.

I find that personally i dont mind not having good phone support as long as the servers have low loads and good uptime and they answer tickets within 24hrs. May be a long time to some people but i dont think ive ever had to open a ticket which is time critical.

But as I just said at the moment everything is back to the normal conditions with my host.
And if something goes wrong again sure I'll try to find another way :)

    Most of them are liars

    - overselling is a lie ( they hide the truth )
    - money back guarantee is a lie ( is only to be a secure investition in the customers eyes)

If this will happen one more time i will request every 0.01 cent i deserve, are my money !!! they fixed the prices not i ! so why should i care about their service if x reseller of x of x reseller is down ? do i look like Mother Theresa ? If they don't care why should i care ?

If i paid for a month i want a month not 4 days , if i paid for a year i want a year not 2 weeks of hosting !!!

Money Back ! they lie us and steal our money  what's my problem if the reseller server is down  i paid give me the service ... buy a dedicated you know what to do but provide your service or money back

Is not our problem they fixed the prices to fool us  they create a hosting business to steal our "the fools" money !
