Christmas... way too comercialized!

I find that most businesses profit greatly from major holidays such as christmas. Especially those in retail.

Quite frankly, I have nothing against celebrating Christmas, but I honestly think that it has become too comercialized. I mean seriously, what other time of year would you stand 30 minutes in a line up at Walmart just to give them your money, only to give away what you so desperatly paid for?

On the other hand... how can average folks - such as you or I - take advantage of peoples big spending accounts before and during major holidays?

How can months - such as december - put extra $Mooolah$ in our pocket?

    You might find this interesting:

    => http://www.mygreatempire.com/christmas.html

Supposedly its a billion dollar industry. A survey done by "American Research Group, Inc." concludes that the average adult american plans on spending aproximatly $859 for christmas 2007, which is 5% less from last years average of $907. Now don't tell me we are not a commercialized nation.

That is alot of money to go through peoples hands... wouldn't you agree?

Any ideas on how we can make some of that money stick to our fingers?

I don't buy or accept gifts. A long phone call, a nice letter, a big hug, those are meaningful things that make people feel good.

Then again, I don't have children, but if I did, they would probably hate me, because they would get books. Reading is FUNdamental.

    lol..
My son used to get books, well to be truthful he gets them all year long still. He did love reading, not so much as he's grown up. Still does read but not as much.

Christmas is the time for games, toys, computers, etc. This year it's the year of the dog :p and a bunch of other crap he'll play with for a day or two and then forget he has.

He actually has 2 bedrooms, and that still isn't enough for all his crap.

The joy of being an only child.

I would agree with you on that one Guerilla.
Gifts just don't do it for me. People go heads over heels at this time of year... which I don't think was the point of it in the first place. I'd say we're missing the mark... by far.

lol... I suppose. I guess the trick is to make a few of those billions of dollars go through my hands... perhaps THEN I wouldn't mind it either ;)

I hate stuff. It fills my space. I would love to live the character that Bruce Willis played in the show 'Moonlighting'

He lived in a huge empty apartment with furniture. All he had was a bed and a closet with his clothes and some water in the fridge.

Seriously though... what do people (especially kids) think of when they think of christmas? PRESENTS!!! They want more junk... for what? I just believe that the point of christmas is being forgotten, thanks to the comercialization of it!

You gotta let them enjoy being kids while they still can, before they have to endure the hardships that life brings, a kid thats too grown up just isn't right. They'll learn eventually that they can't always ge the junk they want, like our parents did as they grew up.
