There are some sites where I don't need the www, and others times I do need it. Is there a reason for this? A different type of server? And if I am promoting my website, should I promote it with the www or not? Does this effect the number of hits that are recorded on my page depending on whether people type in www?
www is a subdomain of your domain, it's been branded into pretty much every consumers mind though now, so make sure you at least are using both (forward one ontop of the other)
This happens beacause of 'A' entry You need canonical enteries pointing to same IP only then both will work Regards Alex
Thanks. But where and how do I forward www.mydomain.x to mydomain.x? Sorry I've never done this before
Find out which one Google has indexed, redirect the other to that one, then you can promote it anyway you like (but I'd still have links go to the one Google has indexed).
Nope, you can do it yourself. http://www.webweaver.nu/html-tips/web-redirection.shtml http://www.webconfs.com/how-to-redirect-a-webpage.php
