I have a question, I am going to buy a new dell desktop in the coming months and I don't want vista. I have an unsed 64bit XP pro disk. Could I install that, or do I need a 32bit program?
why the hell MS made a OS which eats up so of system resources , they should have left some for poor programms i dont use vista as i think it is a crappy product , u can try disabling vista Aero and other flashy things , get unnecessary programs off u r running list that will help a bit
Most people aren't getting 4gb of ram when the buy a new cpu. If it takes that much to run vista smoothly then we have a problem..
New service pack is coming for xp very soon, this only tells me that XP is still the king OS at M$, if they are still devoting time to work on an old OS. I personally don't like vista because of all of the windows and boxes that pop up for everything you do. My pc can run vista as quick as it is supposed to run, but XP runs 10x faster.
All you need for XP is 512MB. But add 4GB to XP and it will be running faster than Danny Divito to a Buffet table.
Vista is doing "Windows updates" about 100 Mo per week here .... I will need to upgrade my Internet connection ;-) My advice: keep XP
To run Vista efficiently you need at least 2 Gigs of memory. 3 Gigs is recommended. I have Vista and 3 Gigs of memory and it runs fast.
I don't like vista, in fact I'm using microsoft NT on the laptop and linux on work pc. I have pretty powerful computers though my laptop is DELL xps m1710
it's insane how slow vista is, my via c7 800mhz computer runs windows 2000 beater then my new duel core laptop running vista. not to mention file copying, moving, unzipping speeds suck. i do like the networking in vista though but i hate that they had to re-arrange everything again. ill wait for the first service pack to see if file transfer speeds improve otherwise im going to install xp.
Vista is fine now. My laptop is 2 years old and it has 2 gigs for Ram and it runs very fast. I have the SP1 RC installed and its just perfect. No lags, no blue screens, no nothing, it just runs smooth.
