Best CMS to run a online newspaper or magazine

Hi there,

What do you think is the best CMS out there if you run a magazine?

Two very important things is that it's highly SEO-able and that it's easy to customize (like thumbnails on the frontpage, listing, image sizes, content areas inside articles, listing etc).

Are there any superb publishing CMS'es out there? Please don't say Joomla or any crap like that, I want a CMS for magazines, not "Joomla".

 

try typo3 then if you don't like Joomla

 

Try Drupal. It's a steep learning curve but it's very SEO friendly and I have seen many online mags use it very effectively. Although to re-itterate... to get it looking as good as some of the sites I have seen you might have to hire someone to get it looking that way. You can learn on your own to get it started but to get it looking real slick is another matter. It's a very very steep learning curve. I gave up on it for a site I had it was too much a pain in the butt but I have seen some really phenomenal sites using it well.

 

I don't have to be free and opensource, I'm more than happy to pay if the product is good : )

 

Wordpress is pretty nice, and you can get a theme to make it look like a magazine.

I forgot to add Joomla is not that bad but if you're totally against it, then Drupal is great. http://www.observer.com is powered by Drupal. I considered Drupal for my site when I saw the observer site but couldnt afford the price...joomla was cheaper for me.

Mambo is probably a good choice also. Pretty easy to learn. Although it follows the same lineof code as Joomla.

Hi. We use EzyMedia for our site www.theword.com.au Very cheap, out of the box, instant and great for managing online to print, or vice versa.

 

I've built many Web sites for newspapers. I recommend ExpressionEngine because the templates are easy to customize, it is great for building classified sections and it organizes large volumes of content in an efficient way. The customer support is excellent as well.

The cost is low for what you get -- $250 right now.

Satelx you said Ezymedia was cheap, I went to their website all I saw was demos but no prices, usually when sites omit the price it's because the price to high, I called the company and left a message when they state the price I will post it here. I hate when companies do that to me it says they charge what they want and the price changes with each customer, that is not good business and usually I do not do business with companies like that. If they quote a price that isn't cheap I will inform everyone

 

expression engine is too expensive cause you still have to buy add ons in order to make it worth while. Too many producats are way over priced
