if it is good they will pay for it. You can always start higher and go lower, easier then the other way around. Sell it higher on your website and give DP members a discount if you want. Either way, don't underprice your self. If you can show that the user will likely make multiple times over the cost it won't be a problem. So if you sell it for $20 and prove to me I can make $100-$200+ from it thats great. If you sell it for $3 and prove to me I can make 5 to 10 times my money back that is not a great encouragement to buy your book. Make sense?

If you sell it for $1000 and proved to me that I could make $5000- $10000 from it I would buy it. Mind you thats a bit over the top so you would have to have a steller reputation to do it. Like I wouldn't buy it from you, as I would presume its a scam. But if shoemoney was selling it, I would buy it. Get the piont?

I believe the age old addage is true for you as well. You get what you pay for. If you sell a $20 product you get that, if you sell a $3 product you get that. If people perceive thats what its worth, y would they bother with a $3 book? Unless your just being benevolent and you show it.

Either way, know this. It sounds like you trying to do a great job, and really give a qualtiy service. You will have critics no matter what. If its the best book ever people will say its a scam. if you prove to them they will make their money 1000 times over, they will buy it and still say its is junk. It just cause they don't want to even try. Don't get discouraged, keep going, there will be those who will prosper from it. Hard work, seems like its a lost art on some people. Just speaking from experience. Stick with it, if its good and applicable, I will buy a copy.

If you market it well I'm sure people will spend $3. I'm sure you could get much more for it though. If you want it to be very affordable maybe just make it $5 or $9.95, since people sometimes associate price with quality. Put some samples of the book on your site to make them feel comfortable.

    Good luck!

Yeah, I'm pushing towards $10 (exact.) I need to get a decent car :/.

Honestly I am really impressed with the feedback I've been getting from you guys :). When I posted this I figured people would just say, "Ha! That's been done so many times, you fail!"

Another thing, If I make a 100 sales by the end of December, I will randomly select a customer and give them a free domain name through godaddy.

$3 seems a bit cheap people might think its low quality. I say improve the product and sell it $10

    Yeah, I've decided on $10.

Heads up, I have noticed a lot of negatives towards e-books which is completely rational, because they all say the same thing, but my goal is to do things different, radical and unheard of ways to gain traffic. In fact I'm putting 1 - 2 of these ideas in just the preview.

    Things about the book:

Innovative, easy to read, not drawn on, a tell and show set up, plus it's nicely produced. I'm hoping for a mid December release (around the 20th.) On top of that, I've decided for every 15 I sell I'll give away a free domain to past customers, so not only do you spend $10, but you can get reimbursed in the form of a domain. For every 50, I will give away a hosting account to dream host for 1 year and a domain. Hoping this will gain interest :D.

I think $3.00 is a bit low. I would do a test run in the range of $7.00 to $12.00 I would consider the time put into it and how much that time was worth. If you get 1000 potential buyers a month and 1% will buy, that's 10 sales. 10 x $3.00 = $30.00 a month or $360.00 in a year.

Then think about your advertising costs. I think $3.00 is VERY low. JMHO.

Three dollars is too low! I would charge at least seven dolars, or may be more if the book content was really meaty! Have you ever heard of those ebooks costing 19.99??? A 'for-sale' price...

Yeah I agree with a lot that has been said already in this thread. If you are selling on DP then the $10 mark seems about right. However if you were to create a landing page with some great sales copy, then you could have affiliates market it for you via clickbank...and charge a lot more for it. It is all about suiting your audience and what they expect...:)

The most common mistake people do when they start their own business / sell their own product is undersell themselves. They price the items extra low because they want to generate sales and they don't mind not making much money. But to the average customer, what this says is that the item is not of good quality.

If you're going to sell it for $3, just put it out there for free, and hope to get revenue from word-of-mouth and advertising dollars. Otherwise, do what other people said and mark it up some more. Making people shell out $3 is not the right way to go.
