Which OS is the best for dedicated server?

    I want a linux server,

    Can someone tell me which server is the best for fast performance?

    Fedora Core (5,6)
    Gentoo LiveCD.
    FREE BSD
    CENT OS 5

    Please help me out

    It depends on your (or server administrator's) skills and knowledge. I am satisfied with Debian (not in your list) and Gentoo.

    CentOS 4 is the most popular. It does not really matter, CentOS 5 is just newer. My host told me to stay with CentOS 4.
