Google admits it is inferior to Yahoo

the google toolbar shows google homepage as PR8, why is yahoo at PR9?

Surely by the definition of the word pagerank google is less valuable, less resourcefull and has less authority than yahoo. maybe they should implement some seo for themselves and stop trying to punish webmasters and making it soooo easy to get a site de-indexed.

They don't need to implement any SEO. Yahoo is older - and has a lot more backlinks (since it was created)

Yeah the google.com is a 10, there are other extensions of google that are not yet 10.

Remember that Google likes to keep their home page simple. Their focus is for you to go there and search without distracting yourself on other things. It is optional to add news and everything to your home page. Yahoo's home page is filled with a bunch of content which doesn't necessarily make it better as far as helping people focus more on search. Yahoo doesn't have a choice because a large bulk of their money is earned by the ads on their home page while google sells ads using adwords, doubleclick, and they keep their home page simple.

Yahoo has marketplace which they do earn a nice amount of income with but they still earn alot of their income from the ads on their home page. That could be one reason Yahoo's PR is 10 but here is even a better reason. Critics will always be critics. If Google ranks their home page with a 10 they would probably get criticized even more. By not ranking their home page with a 10 they can avoid having people say that their PR is biased.

But then again, I just saw Google's PR on my toolbar and I see a 10. Again, critics will always be critics and the best thing to do is to focus on getting ways to get traffic to your website. PR does not equal traffic.

Wow, thanks for pointing that put. I will now be switching all effort to Yahoo, they have a higher PR.

Their search engine sucks, their webmaster tools are fair at best, their PPC program is not even in the same class, but you are so right, it is time to dump Google!

Dude, don't know what you're looking at, but google.com has been PR10 for eons.

Anyway, focus on good content and great linking procedures, and PR will take care of itself. :)

did you notice that if you search for "search engine" in google, you get google on second page. Altavista is first.

I will do a deal with Google to SEO their website, I will change their Title tag to "Google Search Engine" then they will be rank 1 for that keyword! Only costs $500,000.
