Why is it that the members that have 5k posts never seem to get on the band wagon?

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by CarMatchPro, Dec 21, 2007.

Last week I was getting onto every directory and Search Engine available, thinking, I would get more traffic, which I did. However, in certain parts of the forums members 3k+ were NOT providing their Url.

Why is that? What do you know that I don't? Will this have detrimental affects in the future?

Go easy on me on the techy words...I'm practically a domain virgin.
    Cheers

You mean some people here on DP dont want to give their urls? Thats because they dont need that little extra exposure, and to avoid jalous people from sabotaging them (click bomb, etc) I think.

I know that some people that once they release their website to the public with their name on it, that the newer members go crazy and send a million pm's asking how they can do the same. Plus sometimes it's better not to stand out.

Click bomb basically means someone clicked repeatedly on your adsense or other ads network in the hope that you get banned.

I can see that, but I'm willing to bet there are other reasons too. I'm just not experienced enough to know better.

On referral sites at the base of my site...it shows the referrer and some of them seem to be pharmacutical (sp) links of some sort. I'm thinking by getting on the band wagon (Search Engines and Directories) with these small enterprises that I have taken on some unquestionables.

Wow. Thanks. That's quite the concept.

It's probably one of the true flaws of the Web, some people can lurk and never be found out and create havoc in the meantime.

Is it the person that put the ad sense up in the first place? In other words, the owner of the site?

Unless they are trying to sell something to the forum crowd, theres no real point putting their URL in their sig as it wouldnt relate to the topic of the forum.

I see three main things that would stop you from mentioning your URL, stats, income, etc.:

    1) Tons of PMs with questions about it.
    2) The jealous people wanting to sabotage you.
    3) Copycats popping up the next day.

Hmmm. OK. So. it's not becasue the upcoming Directories and SEO can be used for unethical means? Like bot nets?

If Google (or another add provider) sees 2000 clicks fromt eh same source in a day, they will assume that there's something fishy going on (IP fraud, you're clicking your own adds from another computer, asked a friend to click the adds etc) and will pull the adds out and not pay you anything for those clicks. It doens't have to be the owner of the adds clicking on them that gets them banned, but unusual activity will too.
