Wow, i'll read this when I have more time.

I agree myspace have larger rivals than facebook in other countries though (i.e. ones with a higher % of that countries population using it regularly than myspace). I can see mass expansion for Myspace going over the world, they probably won't do much in the US.

If the public knew the truth of myspace, they would be appalled. Myspace was founded by Tom and Chris, whom made a pile of cash from myspace's parent company, Intermix. It was not started in an apartment, it was started in cubicles at Intermix. Intermix is an aggressive online advertising company that specializes in popups, pop-unders, browser hijacking and redirects, and anything else you could consider shady in the arena. When News Corp purchased myspace, they actually purchased Intermix, which myspace was just 1 of 30 properties under them. Intermix still exists and still do what they do. If you wonder where the hoards of free iphone, free ipod, free ringtone, and dating advertisements come from on the net (billions of them daily), it comes from intermix. They make mega millions now from them. Before, Tom and Chris were making a few million a year invading pc's

Hope this helps. I found the basics in a NY Times article from 2005, but did my research after that.

Do you think we're stupid? It doesn't matter how myspace started all there is to know is that its successful.

Wow, didn't expect a rather mean response and that wasn't warranted. I was just providing info of what is behind them. Me, I prefer HI5 for actual use. Myspace is just spam.

Didn't know it was on Wiki. Still not many know. Which i do believe, they are also behind CoolWebSearch, eg cws. Yes, myspace is very sucessful. But half the user base is either second accounts or spammers. Sony and Warner alone have about a million spam accounts. All those friends requests with a single pic, two band banners, and a short profile. The ands are always sign with either Sony or Warner, or one of their subsidary labels. Myspace doesn't stop them, because Sony and Warner could pull their entire roster and drop their traffic by 50% in only a few days.

Do you have fun making things up? Myspace is known for their music - and all the accounts are real people if you check out their bulletins and such. All the major artists have account and interact with their fanbase.

Myspace has no pop ups, pop unders or any advertising like that. I know it was created by an advertising company, but thats no reason to say it's a bad site...:/

Mean again? I am in that realm of business. You'd be really surprised though. It's a lot cheaper to do that then flood magazines with expensive advertising. For a mid level band, that could easily run about $25,000 a month. Only one small ad in a regional mag costs about $600 per month, like SUE in Finland 650e for a 1/4 page. I see this daily though. No more responsing from me on this topic anyways.

I agree. I'm not sure why so many people try to downgrade a popular site. Who cares how it started.

Nowadays you're somehow forced to have an account,
at these sites,or you aren't part of any real life social group,
that's the price of beeing a teenager these days.

Still don't think mypace or facebook won't surpase our local social network,
at least untill now, myspace started their campaign so we'll see how that turns out.Facebook is growing with a steady pass

It would be interesting to see a reverse trend in the social market. At the moment it seems like all of the social networks seem to want to be able to connect anyone from anywhere to anyone else. Maybe in the future, social networks will be built around smaller communities some how connecting with others rather then a large mass of people. Of course their are networks in facebook but what if in the future the networks became their own social sites and were not part of a larger intergrated complex. It would be neat to see.
