How are the odds stacked against us? There are trillions of planets out there. What is unlikely is that none of the trillions of planets would produce life when the chances of life arising is, In your own words, Only "1 in a billion".

Even if there is only 1 trillion planets odds of "1 in a billion" would produce 1000 planets that harbours life.

I take it you are now going to stop believing in god... Or was what you said justification for a preconceived conclusion and NOT a reason. Were you looking for evidence to support your conclusion or coming to a conclusion based on evidence?
