I can't take it anymore! I finally have to ask. How is myspace a marketing tool? What's all this hoopla with having myspace accounts with 5,000 or so friends? I use myspace-not a lot but occasionally- and I just don't see it. So you create a profile, randomly and people as friends and then what....how does that add any value to your business? I would really appreciate it if someone explained this to me because I have been wondering for awhile.
I know alot of p@rn sites send spam messages to poeple via myspace... and some local bands promote themselves through it... Not sure how else you can use it. Why do you get the impression that it is used for marketing a legit business?
I don't know. I keep seeing all these posts on this (and other boards) about wanting to buy and sell profiles with tons of myspace friends, I just couldn't figure out why.
MySpace has been HUGE for bands. This article should shed some light on the subject. http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/2006-01-08-myspace-teens_x.htm MySpace is extremely viral. Anything viral can be tapped for marketing purposes, especially MySpace if your demographic is 15-20somethings. -Brian
Well I think it could be effective even though using it would be spam. I think it's into the black area of marketing, but consider the following: I own [nourl]http://www.afreehostsupportedbyads.com [/nourl] and want myspace users to make their sites using my host so I can make money off the ads. After all, young people looking at sites for entertainment would be more prone to click on ads. I get an account, or many accounts, and get many friends. I then send a message to all those "friends" and tell them about this cool site that offers free hosting--my site. Some of those people will sign up, even know they don't know you. It's just another form of email spam. I think it could be effective, but wouldn't be something I would do.
Using a myspace account to build traffic is simply a new way of "borrowing" traffic from another network. We've already seen this from people using eBay as a "lead generator" (ie. selling $1 ebooks and then up-selling them a better product through an autoresponder). Or even on forums like this via a sig link. Like anything else, there are right and wrong ways to use (or abuse) such traffic sources. * Ebay CAN be a place to make connections for backend purposes - so long as you're NOT abusing their terms of service. * Forums can be an excellent place to establish credibility and find JV partners (as well as legitmately build traffic and PR through sig links). * And social networks like Myspace.com can also be a very effective and targeted way to promote your cause - if done right. (The flipside is of course, breaking Ebay's TOS, spamming forums and sending mass PM's to Myspace users.) Yes, Myspace.com spam is getting out of hand, but that's because it's a relatively new way to experience the internet - the same way forums, ebay and even EMAIL was when they all originated. So my suggestion would be to ETHICALLY take advantage of the freedoms to build a rather large network of prospects for free using Myspace - by providing great content and making friends, NOT by spamming or using apps to automate the "friend adding" process. Happy marketing, -Chris Rempel
MySpace can be used to get your message out when you're promoting an event, a show, something locally etc. It's a great tool. I don't know about "business business", but anything entertainment related seems to spread like wildfire if it appeals to the MySpace kind of crowd.
Posting bulletins to a lot of friends will generate a lot of traffic for your site. For example my promotional account has 65k friends and with 2 bulletins I Can get 500 online on my website. Its a good way to promote, for free.
Myspace + Music = Teens It's not a business community. Although I must admit, I do have an account there to chat with family abroad. BB
Myspace is pretty cool for music, I signed up there and searched on bands by sounds like. Its pretty cool if your a music freek.
Myspace is a breeding ground for the 16-25 crowd. They're on their constantly and if you've got a product that can utilize that age group. I'd use it!
my son's band is using myspace (one of the cheesiest places on the web) their user name or whatever it is called is: theartofrosewood seems like a lot of bands and a lot of girls wanting to 'be' with those bands is on myspace. My wife and I are astounded by the clothing or lack of 15 and 16 year old girls wear!
I agree with you that there's a lot of smut on myspace, but they're kids and I guess if we want to market to them, we have to get through that.... lol
Did you listen to their stuff? They are adding the screamo garbage to their songs now, I am trying to talk them out of the screamo junk. And I thought the 80's metal bands were cruddy and now we have screamo where they plan on people not being able to understands the lyrics on purpose. oh vey
