You just get the best links you can get. Try to get some related to your niche. Also look for those that high PR!
Look for sites related in topic. if they allow comments post one with link if allowed. Add sites to directories and if you see new ones add it also they might get ranked well over time.

Doing this is more effective when you do it for traffic and don't worry about the backlinks. The backlinks will come naturally.
