Is SEO the most important aspect of advertising a site?

There are so many different ways to attempt to advertise a website, I was wondering if SEO would be the best thing to focus on. I have a few websites I would like to try to get more people to and was wondering if SEO is where my focus should be. If so where should I go to get started learning about it? If not, what should be more of a focus than SEO?

First you should have very good content and then start worring about SEO. Even you you would be the first for something like "credit cards" if your website isn't appealing and with good content it wouldn't matter. You would make some money but a small part from what would you make with the right content.

there are lots of option to promote your site like
    - ppc advertisement
    - email marketing
    - and many more but
i will suggest to go for SEO because it will be cheap with compare to other paid inclusion and you will get more traffic at the same price.
just go for SEO if you site is new and get more relevant traffic to your site.

let me know if you need any help regarding to SEO

    all the best

I own a MySpace Icon site (nothing being sold), I used to receive 1500 visits a day, suddenly I've fallen off the charts down to 400 daily. I still have multiple links to my site through other users MySpace profiles but I feel that getting to the top of google would boost my visits per day.

I read another post on this site and tried my best to follow what was said. I searched other sites with my content and tried to make the best keyword meta tag possible, I've created the sitemap, a robots.txt file, I have a setup allowing users to affiliate with me. I checked all of my links and they all work. I was wondering if anyone else had any other suggestions.

Does PR have a lot to do with the result position of your site? I have a 4 currently, or is the majority of the importance for results about picking keywords better?

No, having a site that is worth advertising and marketing is the most important aspect. You are just wasting your time and money driving traffic to a site that everyone will bounce on.

    Hey SteveZz:)

As far PR, some websites can have a low PR and still place higher than the higher pageranked sites in the SE search results. So having a large pr is not always going to give you the upperhand.

SEO is very important. Anytime I design a website actually any given webpage.... I start by SEO for it. Granted it takes awhile for the results to happen but..

In the meantime while its gaining its rank, climbing the search engines etc, I work on advertising with PPC, classifieds and article marketing.

You need to understand what your selling and also understand to what extent you can go to sell --

Analyse your target niche and decide upon what marketing strategy you could use - whether it be paid or organic or social media.

After determining what would be best - Decide upon how much you can spend and then go about it.

I'm new to this topic of SEO, I've had websites for quite a few years now I feel like I've been missing out on quite a bit without doing SEO is there a good place to learn where to begin with SEO? Maybe a site that has a good description of where to begin? I would love to be directed towards something that could help me get a start. I signed up for google webmaster tools and submitted sitemaps and verified the sites. Other than that and hoping that I chose good keywords I'm at a loss where to go from here.

    Thanks for all the replies.

A good marketing stunt gets you more traffic than all the search engine love you'll get from google.
