Everything looks fine when everybody goes about their lives with their own religious belief (or lack of belief). But then there are people who make an attempt to impose what they believe on others. We might have all come across people who start a conversation with you on some spiritual topic or on some incident that has a thin connection towards religion and slowly make it religious. And finally, they go on to proclaim that your beliefs are false and that their religion is "true". It confuses you when they use the word true. Are they saying that their religious history is true? Or are they saying that their methods of worship are true?

There are also people who start by pretending that they want to learn your religion and begin by questioning. This questioning eventually leads to them trying to prove everything you believe as wrong.

The question is simple. Does preaching turn people hostile towards members of the religion the preacher belonged? Or worse, does preaching turn them hostile towards spiritual discussions?

    Thanks.

Yes. A lady started talking to me at the grocery store. She said, "Oh, have you heard about Jesus?" Who hasn't? So anyway, I let her go on. At first I wasn't mad. Then she starts telling me that I am going to hell if I don't believe. Yuck. I know where church is. No preaching necessary.

it's usually ego-driven. if we are speaking of Christians preaching, they should know ego and pride are sinful. the whole "i know something you don't know" is what starts conflicts. Satan is also the master of conflict. Christians who provoke conflict are feeding the devil his second supper.

I think preaching is better for those who want to hear it. I feel the best way to share my beliefs are to try and show it through my actions, but man... it really is way harder then just saying "hey, I'm right and you're wrong", but we're talking about all beliefs right? Not just Christian? I've been preached to by quite a few people telling me I'm wrong for believing in a "fairy tail".

Yes once two guys caught me for preaching, I said I do not have time to listen to them, then they said, life is short, if I listen to them I can have eternal life at heaven, etc , I asked whether Jesus said that his presence would go with the believers , they said yes, then I asked them whether at that moment they were feeling the presence of Jesus in their heart, they let me go then :D

No I don't hate them, I find them funnily entertaining..

I have a converted Christian friend and he started talking about Jesus and stuffs. He too told me that being an agnostic isn't a way out, and I'm going to hell when I'll die. I told him it would be fun for me as I'm known as devil within my friends group and I'd enjoy the company of other devils... I made him so irritated that he just left shaking his head...

There are millions of people suffering and dyring of hunger and starvation. Helping your fellow human being should come before preaching. How many of those evangelists actually are stepping up to teh table to be there for those that have no one to be there for them?

True. It is not possible to say bluntly, "You're wrong and I'm right". It would be interesting to know when people use the word "true" whether they're referring to their religious history as true or their method of worship as true. Thanks for the response.

    Don't know him mate.
But we have a TV channel here called 'GOD' I was watching the channel one day and there was a guy preaching. He was basically abusing all non-believers and comparing them with homosexuals. One may find it offensive, but I found it hilarious, the way he was speaking was just ridiculously funny. Killing dude.

Depends on how it is done. If you start harassing people, you are going to turn them off.

I used to hate it, But now i find it enjoyable. their religions are so fragile and they generally know so little about it that it's fairly easy to tie them up in knots and make them look stupid.

On the internet it's harder because people are more willing to make complete fools out of themselves, They are more able to bypass logic, common sense and self respect. but face to face it's pretty hard for even the most cretinous imbecile to carry on making the same erroneous point after being proven wrong.

I never get tired of seeing that look on their face when they realise that you know more about their religion than they do.
