Rankings Drop And Recover Weekly in Google. What gives...?

I have a clients website that has some very odd behavior in Google's SERPs. Yahoo and MSN are fine.

Every week the site drops rankings for a day or 2 and then recovers them for 5 to 6 days. Then it drop again and then recovers.

I know that SERPS will fluctuate but when the client's site drops it is drop off the face of the earth for many keywords they rank in the top 10 for.

Has any one experienced this? What would cause this? Something server side, site side, sitemap?

Any ideas will help thank you dp members

Never had a similar problem, have you actually tried to monitor the backlinks the site has? Or try to force a bit with building some new backlinks, this might prevent the drop.

I'm thinking of the same thing too about the backlinks of your site..it could be one of the possible reasons for such things.. check for broken links and check the status of your link on your link partners

The backlinks on the site are very clean and constant. All there are no broken links on the site.

So this still does not explain why the site would drop and rebound in a repeating pattern.

    Any other ideas?

I've seen this with corporate customers and med to high competitive terms the volume of links from press releases and ad impressions. I was able to get ahead of the total peak amount in order to not see this flux...

How long this has been going, I think that your links are not permanent you need to work a bit more on SEO and link building.

    All backlinks have remained constant.

Its not that all of sudden the website disappears from google and never comes back.

Every week the site drops rankings for everything for a day or 2 and then recovers them for 5 to 6 days. Then it drop again and then recovers.

    What can explain this movement?

I would guess that your site and your competitors are closely matched. Google cant determine clear winner so it juggles the top sites around a bit.

Well i had this weird experience
Built a competitive keyword based website 6 months back
had it in the first few serps immediately in the first month end
Then it went to the 500th position
then again climbed in the next month
    again dropped for second time
again climbed in the next month
    again dropped
and now i find it again climbing, waiting for this act to stop

This is very similiar to what I am experiencing.

I find it so odd that Yahoo, MSN, and ASk are not dropping the site for a day or 2 and then brining it back, but Google is.

I still have not seen any advice that can explain this.

I'm experiencing the same thing with a competitive keyword that I'm working on as well, it jumps from ranking 30 to ranking 150 every week or so, just couldnt figure out why.
