Do ppl actually buy links from these directories? How do you make money from this? Sorry i have to ask.
No people do not buy links, they pay for a review and or advertising, similar to if you wanted to place a ad in the paper. as with any business after costs the owner can make a small profit from each submission.
Champ, it's not for me to say what it is, or how it labelled as i do not want wars with other directory owners, it is their choice on how and what they do. For me, my approach is it will be free to register a listing and list in my directory, if you want a feature or premium listing this will be classed as advertising and is my choice, each to their own.
How on earth can you read my mind? Thats exactly the way I view the directory business. It is fascinating to actually review sites and discover them which you would not have heard of otherwise.
Everyone could twist and turn on whats its called. Some people say advertising some people says links or whatever review it is. Its buying a link and face it, why be afraid of saying a link or buying a link ? Afraid of Google ? Puuleeaasee guys face it its buying a link.
Hehe, Car dealers how do those people sleep at night, are they born that way or is there a secret school for those guys, hehe You forgot politicians, parents too, they tell you there is Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, Jack Frost, all lies.
It is simple submit your link for review and if it passes (most owners will by the way) then they will place your website (put up the link) in a category. Then there will be an advertisement of your link in the directory once your website link passes a review. Voila your website link is up for advertisement. Geez some peeps really have'nt learned yet at all. Still, they mock Google while they shy away of calling naming it buying a link. We all still sell links, advertisement and reviews whats new ?
Popo is right. You are buying a link. The only places where you really pay for a review is botw, yahoo etc. smub used this policy also. Rejecting a site does is done after review, therefore the review fee shouldnt be refunded.
But a true review is left in place, for the whole world to see how truely poor something is. I know it cant work that way with directories, but you know what i mean. Review still doesn't truely fit the situation.
Whether you refund or not refund, review or not review - still it's buying link. Isn't there any way to provide a backlink without the pr juice ? Just a backink, no pr. Then it wont violate the tos.
While the times are changing the mentality and the way the directories operate needs to change a bit. Pay to review or pay for inclusion...there is a thin line between these. I think the directories needs to provide much more than the basic inclusion. I would like to think that some of directories would become web service providers more than link sellers or link reviewers. For instance I'd say that Zyas.com does not charge for inclusion, the fee is for the video ad creation in my case, for my time in doing this. This is why if a website is rejected I will refund the whole amount. I will also move a part of my SEO services and content creation to the directory in order to offer a variety of options for the submiter and I will clearly state that the inclusion if free but the fee you'll need to pay is for some other services offered.
Dan thats a very clever idea. I offer blog reviews for premium links submitted to zorg directory. My prices include things like that, the review, the advertisement for featured/deep links.
Exactly Mikey...this is what I'm talking about... State on your guidelines that the fee is for the service provided...the inclusion is free....
That has been our angle from day one, i also believe that a new style directory will also focus on driving visitors to the site putting an end to pr chasers and in that open it up to those who manage this best to come out on top. but i have been wrong before, funny thing is i am seeing some directories ( not here ) coming out that are a near mirror copy of plans i put down 12 months ago, and a lot directories mirroring parts of what i have spoken about, just fate i am not sure but one thing is times are a changing.
I know what you feel and I understand your frustration. Copying an original idea is a sort of fashion these days and I have to say that it is very inconvenient for the person who spent a lot of time in planing and developing his original idea. During the last 3 years I've had about 5 original concepts stolen by other people even before I had the chance to launch them. Two of them are really popular today but I wasn't the one to profit from them but some other stupid people where I went for some programming help
