Some great news to all you Lord of the Rings fan’s like me I just read the Peter Jackson is going to direct The Hobbit movies. I had always read if it was going to happen someone else would be directing it due to his dispute with New Line Cinema.

He will be filming two Hobbit films simultaneously and plan to release the two films in 2010 and 2011. It’s a long time to wait but if will be worth the wait when they finally arrive on screen.

Very nice. I don't think any other director could pull it off directing The Hobbit other than Jackson.

It's a blessing in disguise. By the time you forget about this the movie will be almost done, and then you can get excited again. :D

Quoted from the New Line website

"The two “Hobbit” films – “The Hobbit” and its sequel – are scheduled to be shot simultaneously, with pre-production beginning as soon as possible. Principal photography is tentatively set for a 2009 start, with the intention of “The Hobbit” release slated for 2010 and its sequel the following year, in 2011."

Peter is a class act. I read the Lord of the Rings before it was made into a movie. At that time I didn't think it was humanly possible to condense the epic into a film, but I was proven wrong and I'm happy about it :)

It was the matter of time when The Hobbit will be filmed... This is OK, but I really doubt it will be as good as book... Let's wait and see...

So they are just breaking the Hobbit book into two movies, right? The wording is confusing to me because the sequel to the Hobbit, I would think, is the Lord of the Rings.

I would rather have just one movie.. I mean, The Hobbit was shorter then any of the lord of the rings books...

I dont exactly see how they are going to make this book into 2 movies, doesnt really seem possible (i think the story is to short... but then again i read it like 6 years ago)

Not sure why they would film the hobbit last and lord of the rings first...

From what I read on Entertainment Weekly.

"Jackson and his life/creative partner Walsh have always envisioned the big-screen adaptation of The Hobbit as two movies. The first would deal with the 80-year old novel. The second, imagined entirely by Jackson and Walsh, would link the conclusion of The Hobbit to the start of the first Lord of the Rings book, The Fellowship of the Ring."

So its actually just one movie for the hobbit, and then hes linking lord of the rings and the hobbit together? I thought it was pretty clearly linked.

I don't think the 2nd movie is going to be that good, Peter Jackson doesn't think like Tolken. :/
